I'm undecided if I should get this as a freebie from plugin boutique or the pulsar w495 EQ. I don't think I need another EQ (especially since it looks a lot like slickEQ GE, which I use frequently), but I'm not sure if I need/want this synth either, since I already have Repro, Ace, Dune3, Ana2, all the komplete stuff and a few others... What "scenario" during a producing session would make me reach out to this synth and not any other synth? Is it cool for bass sounds, or does it nice plucks, etc.
If it's really just something like "it sounds 2% more analog than synths from other companies" I'll probably skip this.

Its a very cool synth when you need any subtractive synthesis sound. Repro, ace, dune 3, Ana 2 all do subtractive synthesis. You will know what to reach for when you will finaly gonna start doing music.

Not sure what to get from this honestly. So all subtractive synthesizers sound the same? And if I just start making music, I'll magically know which synthesizer to use for a certain sound? That doesn't make a lot of sense to meLbdunequest wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2024 5:45 pm Its a very cool synth when you need any subtractive synthesis sound. Out of that list, PolyMAX is the most similar to Repro. To me, PolyMAX has less character than Repro and isn't as interesting, but it has a pure sound that is good for background parts. Certainly worth the price they're asking (as is the w495).Dr.Gunjah wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2024 5:30 pm I'm not sure if I need/want this synth either, since I already have Repro, Ace, Dune3, Ana2, all the komplete stuff and a few others...

Music making is a creative process how do we magically know what you need to use? Use what you have now for the sake of just creating and eventually you will see if you need new tools or not.Dr.Gunjah wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2024 6:21 pmNot sure what to get from this honestly. And many still use Sylenth1 as theyr main synth, guess what those people make music instead then worrying their brain with questions like you ask.

Sorry folks, drone on all you want. IMNSHO, there isn't a universe where PolyMAX needs an ease of use improvement. I'm also farely sure that UncleE was not offended and knew quite well that I wasn't suggesting that he needed an ease of use improvement. You do you, I'll continue LOLing over here.

The reason to get it is to sell it in the buy and sell for $3 at some point in the future when it's no longer free.Dr.Gunjah wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2024 5:30 pm I'm undecided if I should get this as a freebie from plugin boutique or the pulsar w495 EQ. Seeing this makes me question UA’s choices, as design over function. The use of yellow makes absolutely no sense.Uncle E wrote: Sat Feb 03, 2024 7:01 pm Wayford released a Prophet-5 skin for PolyMAX. I'm really only asking this because I'm going to buy another plugin anyway and wonder which freebie I should get along with it.Lbdunequest wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2024 6:58 pm Music making is a creative process how do we magically know what you need to use? I even wrote in my first post I don't "need" either of them, so yeah I'm fine with the tools I have now to make music. A new tool still may bring something valuable to the table. Apparently this is not the case here, so I'll probably get that EQ (and never use it)
@UncleE: Thank you for a useful answer. I'll skip this one as I got that clean sounds covered

i thought of it more as an Oberheim synth for some reasonUncle E wrote: Sat Feb 03, 2024 7:01 pm Wayford released a Prophet-5 skin for PolyMAX. I prefer his Juno skin for usability but the Prophet is more similar to what the PolyMAX actually is.

But, I like the yellow and the light background. The yellow knobs grab your attention for some of the most commonly changed parameters in a performance. The filter cutoff, the oscillator continuously varying waveshap, the LFO rate, the oscillator sync. To me there's no confusion on where the modules are, all of the elements are separated by light gray lines that are quite clear on my monitors.
This fascination with black is weird to me. I find it harder to see. Both of those skins have the same color of knobs everywhere. I'm probably never going to use this in a track, but, I don't think either of the two skins do a better job in terms of function than UAD's choices.
