For the Ultra version, yes. The Hyper, AAX compatibility, plus resampled comp and pres, Amber 4 is free for current owners.

Hopefully Green will get the same treatment, I'd happily pay the price for the simple upgrade alone, yet alone the added features.

We have a duty to pay for the work these people put in, especially considering the freebies they offer at certain times of the year. Grey was free and is fantastic indeed, worthy of anyone's pennies.

I like the character of their plugins, quirks and all. Looking forward to what they offer this year.

Opal Comp is getting some good use, a tricky little bu99er to dial in, sounds good when you get it right.

Keep up the good work Acustica.

The Ultra versions recently introduced in the (Tiger and Ash suites as free updates) allowed the development of some of the current improvements.
They were included for free because they were recently launched products, and we took that into account.

Amber 3 was not only released quite some time ago but Amber 4 is included as a free upgrade for Amber owners with significant improvements in CPU and resource usage (Hyper). The Ultra version is optional for those who want it, and you can also try it for free to see if you really need it.

What is Hyper and Ultra?
Are the plugin algorithmic now?

Hyper is an optimization of both sound quality and performance. It is an advance that allows us to capture the sampled hardware's response (and nuances) even better plus an optimization for stability and minimal CPU usage.

You can see this in more detail on the different EQ modes in the manual.

Ultra refers, for example, in the case of the Amber 4 Ultra preamps, to an improved anti-aliasing with superior sound quality.

Ok, so Hyper products are resampled and Ultra products are the same but with improved anti-aliasing. That's why Hyper updates are not free but Ultra are. Makes sense.

Not exactly. To make a product Hyper doesn't necessarily mean the hardware needs to be resampled, although many times we do resample a part (like preamps) or the entire product again; if so, we usually state it like the Amber case.

Ultra sounds different from non-ultra. There's a new AA algorithm but users are FORCED to use ultra in order to get the new AA algorithm, even if they don't want the sound of ultra and want the sound of the non-ultra Amber (because, again, they sound different). This is very anti-consumer.
