Thank you for the insight Andrew.

Wow, could you elaborate on this? I'd be great to see more Cytomic tech integrated to Ableton.
andy-cytomic wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2024 12:19 am Missing in Live 12 from my point of view is having latency compensated song position information sent to devices (post latency generating devices). Currently you have to create a new track and have your devices that rely on song position information first in the chain before anything that generates latency which is not ideal. I previously pushed for latency compensated automation and midi, which thankfully Ableton fixed, but song position information is still broken.
Have you asked Ableton about this one? I'm sure they would listen to you.

You’re welcome.

No. (I’m under NDA so you have to get the answer from someone at Ableton on this)

Yes. It’s a big job, I’ve been encouraging them to fix this since before the 2013 release of the Glue Compressor device in Live 9. They did fix latency compensation for MIDI and automation in Live 9.2 released in 2015. Still waiting for song position compensation.

The generative stuff is pretty neat and changes overall seem good, the pre-order price is not bad as well imo, only about $5 more than the least I have paid for an upgrade to date.

I just sold Maschine because it doesn't do multiple time signatures, and I couldn't justify Push 3 until they give you some method to write a song and play it back on the device without going to the computer. Follow Actions, multiple time signatures would solve this for me. Beyond that it's pretty amazing, I love the ADAT on the soundcard, I have an old RME fireface that you can use as an extended interface into Push which should work in both stand alone and as an interface for your computer. I'm just waiting for the ability to construct scenes into songs.

Live 12.0b27 out, with very few bug fixes. I guess it's very close to release. My guess for release date is 02/20.

Yes, usually the last thing is adding all the language translations...next stop release.

Personally I don't think so. Probably the biggest shortcut they torched when they added dozens of usability feature shortcuts was the toggle Detail View shortcut, ( command option l on Mac ), they promised to add it back in. It seems like it would be a terrible idea to throw rearranged completely different keyboard shortcuts at the end user upon release, and then reinstate toggle Detail View later.

..but then it's not like companies always make bright choices.

Could anybody with access to beta check if command+option+L shortcut to toggle Detail View (the lower part of the GUI) is working in latest Beta 27?

As far as I can tell that shortcut does nothing.

Which makes sense in Ableton Live 12. There is no "Detail View" in the menu. They removed it.

Edit: Just add to this. In 12 you can have both the device panel and Edit panel open, so now you can toggle either one to turn them on or off vs just toggling the Details Panel like before. So it does make sense. So this doesn't seem to be a bug but intended behavior.

So you must use the respective shortcuts for Clip/Device view to remove the bottom part of the GUI?

It's still not back, they did state they were putting it back in an update, but not as of yet.
Right now what you get is option command 3 for clip and option command 4 for device view. both of them toggle and both can be open at the same time. So essentially more keystrokes and lost muscle memory, but it's possible to close the Detail view with shortcuts, it's just more complicated. I'm happy they agreed to put it back though, as this behavior mimics my least favorite Bitwig device panel trait.

For now, yes.

Maybe it's just me but I like the current behavior in 12. I feel like it makes more sense.

But I think they could do both. What is stopping them to keep the old shortcut keys (while keeping the new ones) to remove both Clip and Device (aka old 'Detail' view) entirely? Unless I'm missing something. Sorry, but I don't have access to beta to check myself.

I guess nothing is stopping them. I'm just saying for me it doesn't make sense as I would never want to close both the Edit and Device panel at the same time if both are open. I would rather close whichever one is not needed one at a time. But to each their own I guess.

I guess let me put it like this. If I have the Edit panel open. I can just use the shortcut to close the panel, the same if I have the Device panel open,I can just use its shortcut to close it. If I use CMD+OPT+L to close the "Details" panel which one does it close? The bottom most one? If so what's the difference between just pressing the shortcut to close the device panel (as that's the bottom most panel if the Edit panel is open at the same time), or just using the corresponding shortcut for each panel?

So for the Edit panel its Cmd+Opt+3, for device its Cmd+Opt+4. I just press whichever one is necessary to close the panel. Seems more logical and predictable to me because I know exactly what I'm opening and closing vs hoping Ableton knows my intention.
