some notes I made on several plugins...

If you want a cool way to go through long boring youtube videos, put them on x2, so half the work. Of course this is completely useless when it comes to musical or sound parts.

There was one video where the voiceover guy was pretty slow and a bit dull, so I sped it up, and he sounded completely normal at double speed so I forgot I did it, then wondered why the actual synth demo sounded like crap until I remembered

It was just indirectly made clear to me that I completely forgot Unfiltered Audio Spec Ops in my efforts. That one is pretty deep, it might deserve its own page anyway...

Text formatting is really bugging me on this page, making it harder to read for me:
- Bullet points are off to the left of the rest of the text? The bullets should be indented, or at the very least left-aligned with the rest of the text. Maybe add some margin-left space the the li elements?
- The spacing of the plugin names and bullet points is bothering my eyes. Equal spacing between the previous bullet points and the name, and the proceeding bullet points makes it hard to track. I'd make the heading with the plugins name a slightly larger font, and bring it closer to it's own bullet points than it is to the preceding bullet points.

Thanks for sharing your notes. A few questions about what you wrote, if I may.
Noise Engineering Desmodus plugin, for which I found your older notes as well. Most of what you have written seems oriented at someone who already has it. There is no trial. Only a few short videos by the company themselves. The rack pedigreee helps, maybe how it originally caught my attention. Your review comes across as sort of lukewarm. You didn't say but what material do you find it most pleasing to work with? Any examples? The tail capabilities of Desmodus are what attract me. Are they all that and a bag of chips? Like is it that unique or would you be willing to compare it to other tail-friendly reverbs?
Sinevibes Droplet, I recently demoed. I certainly appreciate the trial policy of Sinevibes vs Noise Engineering. Wanted to like it more than I did. Has a nice story and a nice UI, but left me unfulfilled. Like you said, "Deviation isn’t random" which is what I observed. Ok, my feeling is then what's so special? I tested with limited but specific types of sounds ... bouncing balls, synthesized rain, block percussion, drum loops. Maybe I got Droplet's strengths wrong but the design concept does have me thinking about how to get a more flexible result using a capable multi-tap delay and unreliable sequencing.

It's a WordPress theme, I've got more fun things to do than mess with tweaking it. The bullet points are how it shows list items, and there's no simple way in page editing to avoid the extra vertical space.briefcasemanx wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:48 pm Text formatting is really bugging me on this page, making it harder to read for me:
I did say I think it works well for more industrial or (some) ambient material, and that it does an excellent infinote reverb. It's not at the top of my list, but it *is* on my list. Sometimes it comes in clutch.kidslow wrote: Mon Feb 05, 2024 2:29 am Your review comes across as sort of lukewarm. You didn't say but what material do you find it most pleasing to work with?
The "try it and move on if it doesn't work" comment from my older post isn't really meant to be a knock against it... there are a few effects I treat that way. Honestly after this project I feel like I know it better and should be better able to take advantage of its flavors.
The "not realistic" comment isn't meant as a knock against it. Most of my favorite reverbs I like aren't realistic (including the way I prefer to set up ValhallaRoom), aside maybe from convolution.
As for demos... I also prefer being able to try a plugin before buying. I would say the Desmodus plugin sounds very much like Desmodus Versio firmware in Eurorack, so if you want to check out YouTube videos of that it could help. Cinematic Laboratory does some good ones.
I get that. When I demoed it I must have found something good, but honestly, after having dug deeper into these other delay and reverb options I would probably not buy Droplet today. Still, it's an easy path to a couple of different sounds I like, so since I have it I chose not to drop it off my list... even though I could likely reach the same places with other tools.kidslow wrote: Mon Feb 05, 2024 2:29 am Maybe I got Droplet's strengths wrong but the design concept does have me thinking about how to get a more flexible result using a capable multi-tap delay and unreliable sequencing.

Just reformat it and don't bother others with this please. Thanks.briefcasemanx wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:48 pm Text formatting is really bugging me on this page, making it harder to read for me:

Any post about anything could be considered bothering others, including your post. If you're going to post something for others to read, and it's not very presentable, you may get comments about how unpresentable it is. The more unpresentable, the more likely people are to comment. That's life.
His formatting is not WILDLY unpresentable but it's at a level where I personally did not care to read through it, so I mentioned it. It turns out it's not custom code, but some WordPress preset and they can't adjust it. That's fine, nothing they can do without learning website development, not an issue. It's also not an issue that I brought up my personal experience that the website is not very readable for the type of large info dump on that particular page.
Unless you are specifically looking to make it an issue for some reason. If not, we can end the conversation about the formatting here.

Great write up on those plug ins. Lots of detail.
Agreed on some newer tech, sometimes it's just annoying.

That's a very helpful follow-up. Thank you for the pointer and clarification. I am intrigued by Desmodus and was definitely wondering how close the plugin sounds to the Eurorack.foosnark wrote: Mon Feb 05, 2024 5:07 am As for demos... Makes sense, and clearly those are notes first & foremost made for yourself, so thanks for clarifying. Droplet has going for it a nice interface and easy workflow. I probably built it up in my mind a bit. I think it's human nature to prefer the demos where one goes in with no expectations and is wowed rather than high expectations that are not met. But much better an unsatisfactory trial than buyer's remorse.foosnark wrote: Mon Feb 05, 2024 5:07 amI get that. Long info dumps should be nicely formatted. If my behaviour discourages people from large badly formatted info dumps when it's easy to format, that's great! A small amount of one person's time respects the time of a larger number of people who will be reading. In this particular case, as OP already stated, it's not practical to reformat. That's completely fine, as I already stated.
There's nothing wrong with me saying "hey, this could be more readable" and there's nothing wrong with the OP saying "hey, actually it's impractical to reformat it".
Are we gonna keep derailing the thread? We done here?
Edit: Yeah, I'm done here. If you feel the need to reply again in order to "win" or whatever, I won't even read your reply.

I threw on a couple of minor css tweaks that don't require deeper editing of the WordPress theme.
I still don't think it was actually a problem, given that the site is 6 years old, and this has been the very first comment of any kind about the formatting, as opposed to the substance, of pages I've shared. I hate a wall of text too, but felt like the bullet points did break it up a bit, even with the spacing/indenting where it was.
Anyway.

Notes on Unfiltered Audio SpecOps, a plugin complex and unique enough to deserve its own page.
(I'm gonna work on music instead of deep gear dives for a while, and then either attack some Eurorack modules or synth plugins next, not sure which.)
