Unless you you can predict what something will sound like based on it's formula, in which case you're a god.

What I have been addressing is not a mathematical detail.nakst wrote: Tue Feb 06, 2024 8:52 am
But to be honest, I don't think the details of the maths is important. Like FM synthesis, phase distortion is something you have to play by ear![]()
The synthesizer does not work as we’ve been told when it comes to combining operations in the three process windows of a generator. It is not a discrepancy caused by downstream processing or by incorrect periods, etc.
Why is this important?
Some users may wish to combine operations in two or three windows into one window to effectively have more windows or in an attempt to reduce CPU. They may get lucky, but in general the combination will fail to produce the same results unless they have figured out how to combine them correctly, which is not the method we’ve been told.
There is an error in description of operation that can be expressed in many different forms, with or without mathematical symbols and terminology.
I concluded on my second day of use that experimentation is very likely to be an efficient way to create sounds, given the synth and current conditions. That is a separate issue from trying to optimize use of boxes or CPU.

I concur and agree. Being able to "zero in" on a particular sound you want (i.e. can hear in your head!!!) is difficult without having a good handle on how changes to parameters/math will affect the sound.DaveClark wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2024 3:55 pm ... I have been lucky in that I have got to the stage of having useful sounds - I may still tweak them ad nauseum, but you get to the point where the maxim "don't fix it if it ain't broke" comes to mind.
That said, still getting nice sounds, albeit 80's based!!!

There's a wrapper Vst to clap
Has anyone got any newer versions!? As midi seems to be nessed up on the one which was suggested from the apricot OsC?

I have two main approaches to an OSC round - and its the first decision I make when opening the synth.
1. It's a synth that I can bend to my will. I will have a strong vision/concept before starting - and sculpt the sounds accordingly.
2. The synth is too unpredictable or I don't have the headspace to understand it. Attempts to create required sounds will be frustrating. So I spend time twisting dials and sliders till I have a semi-useful batch of sounds. This then steers what sort of song it's going to be.
This time - it's definitely option 2

Seems error on my end, Qrange being culprit
As above, option 2 is my forever goto

Is it possible to get drum sounds out of this cool synth? Kick is probably possible but what about a snare? Is white noise possible?

Noise is possible using bitcrush & Envelope with delay
Also, check some of the presets, there’s some interesting shapes which you can use & copy to the init to make a snare

Noise is possible when you go to matrix and assign any of the three noise sources to the phase of an oscillators.Eauson wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 7:55 am Noise is possible using bitcrush & Envelope with delay

I do like the delay on env to allow for the tone to pop through first,my preference

Delay on Env is very usefull indeed. It can be used for the classic 808 clap which is iirc 4 noise spike each delayed a few milliseconds. In Regency you can only have 3 spikes. May be better suited for this would be an LFO in ENV mode where one can draw in the 4 spikes ... hm ... gonna need to try this outEauson wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 2:04 pmHadn't even considered the matrix] Peter:H [ wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 12:37 pmNoise is possible when you go to matrix and assign any of the three noise sources to the phase of an oscillators.Eauson wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 7:55 am Noise is possible using bitcrush & Envelope with delay

I tried import a preset bank but I get an error message (see attachment). Is anyone else having this problem?
Also, when I click on "show patches folder" in the preset menu, nothing happens. I'm using Reaper on Mac.

OK, first in. For those who like a melody/tune (a nod to the Any Synth discussion!). Here's my entry for this month (possible minor changes up to the 29th). Melodic lines and a solo!
DAW: Reaper
Track details: 16 * Regency, 16 * ReaEQ, 2 * Oril River, 9 * OTT, 1 * Pecheneg Tremolo, 1 * Twin Delay, 1 * JS: Guitar Amp (TUKAN), 1 * STFU (Zeek)
Master: SlickEQ, MSED, Limiter No. 6
Meter: SPAN, Youlean Loudness Meter
Stats: LUFS: 14.3, DR: 9
The JS Guitar Amp is used mildy to just give the bit crushed guitar sound a bit more "bite". Just so's you know I know!
Please enjoy this little ditty. Not sure what genre to assign to it (suggestions???).
