I don't know what the heck is happening with Atomic Amps, I know there are concerns that they abandoned products in the past, but they just pushed out an update to Tonocracy and made it free at the same time.
https://tonocracy.com/
It's got FX, circuit based amps, amp profiles...gotta like it at free.

Actually, it left me wishing I had the time I spent setting up an account, downloading it and trying it out back. It’s maybe the worst guitar amp emulation I’ve ever tried.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 3:20 am I don't know what the heck is happening with Atomic Amps, I know there are concerns that they abandoned products in the past, but they just pushed out an update to Tonocracy and made it free at the same time.

Thanks for saving our time then !zerocrossing wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 5:32 am Actually, it left me wishing I had the time I spent setting up an account, downloading it and trying it out back. It’s maybe the worst guitar amp emulation I’ve ever tried.
too easy to waste time especially with the plethora of free and or redundant offers !
Also it's one thing to get an*l about minute tone differences, but another to actually go craft good songs.. !
Telling myself to stop looking at new plugins and actually work on my songs

This cannot be taken seriously.
When I read something like this, I am convinced (not for the first time) that kvraudio is the worst place to discuss guitar-related topics.

I think it's not bad actually. The amp models are not up to the level of some other modelers to my ears, but the profiling/capturing is excellent. It has standardized signal input/output level that I'd love to see in other plugins.
The best thing about it, though, is the crazy amount of high-quality profiles for boutique amps captured by Slammin Mofo: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index ... t-37872348
That alone is worth getting Tonocracy for, IMHO.

Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here.

I'm deep in the TONEX eco-system but where I see a lot of value in Tonocracy is as a free profiler that's slicker than NAM from an end-user perspective, while still being fully compatible with NAM (so there's thousands of free captures), and having some built in FX along with it. If you want to create your own profiles, Tonocracy made this simpler and faster than IK's process from what I understand while making it easier to set levels at every stage. That's pretty good for a freebie.zerocrossing wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 5:32 am Actually, it left me wishing I had the time I spent setting up an account, downloading it and trying it out back. Looks like Two Notes has a very similar product with Genome, but that one's $80 and is likely going to be geared towards them upselling you on DynIR cabs.

I'll get it it to see if I like how its capturing interface works, why not
I love ToneX for that purpose and have made many captures in that ecosystem, love how well it recreates my own gear's sounds. Keen to see if this is easier to use than NAM while integrating the same tech.

I didn’t try NAM captures in it, but I suppose it would be useful for that. When I tried NAM, there was no oversampling yet, and aliasing was pretty noticeable. Good captures were rare, and predominantly high gain style amps, and I don’t have my own amps to model, so Tonex seemed a much better choice. Even though I spend $200 on it, I got a big, professionally made library, plus a robust user library with a very diverse collection. Since “time is money,” I consider Tonex to be “cheaper” than Neural Amp Modeler.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 2:16 pmI'm deep in the TONEX eco-system but where I see a lot of value in Tonocracy is as a free profiler that's slicker than NAM from an end-user perspective, while still being fully compatible with NAM (so there's thousands of free captures), and having some built in FX along with it. Not to mention that I can run them inside the most mature software guitar rig solution on the market. I can set up amp and effects paths that would be difficult to do in many other plugins. I can mix them with models and IRs or cabinet simulations, effects, etc.
I just can’t believe that at some point they asked for money for these amp models. They honestly sound horrible to me. There are way better free amp solutions out there.

I played with 3 of their schematic models briefly last night. I thought the Marshall sounded pretty good. The Deluxe Reverb was interesting sounding. Didn't sound like a Deluxe Reverb to me, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless, particularly with the gain up where it was smoother and deeper than a Deluxe. The Vox was terrible though. Like, I thought it was seriously bad.

And fo f#ck's sake. If they've made it free the why are they still forcing users to install Pace iLok support. Free or not, that's a deal breaker for me. I won't have that Pace crap on my machines.

Trying their capture process now. Looks like it's processed in the cloud, which is an interesting choice, maybe removes the need for a capable GPU to speed up things I guess but I reckon it also walls off the garden. It isn't a replacement for NAM, just interfaces with NAM. I'm guessing the processor is getting HAMMERED right now with the sudden user load of making the software free instead of $300. That has the processing going a bit slower than the estimate, but it still managed to cook a capture of my Klon KTR just taking a bit longer than it said, going to see how I like it...
I love the way Tonocracy does calibration. I wish that ToneX had similar calibration!

I didn't get asked for an iLok license or code at any point. I don't remember it trying to install the License Manager either, but then again, I already have it on my machine.CapnLockheed wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 6:02 pm And fo f#ck's sake. Got the same! installed fine but when ran it says not registered. No ilok, C/R or any of the many license managers on my computer.CapnLockheed wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 6:02 pm And fo f#ck's sake. Well, provisionally its capture function seems to work well. I give Atomic credit for how nicely set up the calibration and audition interface is here. Crucially, you have Input and Output gain trims for the capture before you confirm it. ToneX gives you a gain trim, but you can't level match the real and simulated gear simultaneously in the interface. I've wished for the features that this has in ToneX, frankly, but it'll just come down to sound quality in the end. Still making some A/B captures of the same gear to see how they compare individually and when combined. But, in evaluating/auditioning the Klon KTR capture, it was sounding good so far - and the initial capture level was so much closer to the actual hardware level when I did the initial A/B, thanks to the great calibration functions. Had to get my multimeter out, but I'd be glad to do that for any capture software, how useful.
I did not have any iLok related issues. I am however an iLok user for a lot of other plugins, so I already had the back end installed. Not sure if that's the cause of any issues to begin with though, just noting I'm not having trouble, with the standalone app or the plugin, using it on Windows 11 64-bit.
