I have recently joined couple of electronic music production forums and hoping to learn a lot from them. I am an amateur house/electro producer with no professional equipment at all. I play with my qwerty keyboard on FL Studio and for Cubase, I use virtual keyboard or midis.

I won't drag the introduction much and come straight to the point. The reason of starting this thread is that I have failed to understand that why does my all sounds look so unnatural. I mean, no matter what on earth I do, all the sounds look so unnatural and unrealistic.

Before you guys ask stuff let me tell you myself, I don't know how to play with frequencies, highs, lows, and what no.

If you guys think that this is the reason, I am not able to produce professional sounds, can you guys suggest me some good tutorials for that, otherwise guys please help me.

Thanks

Well, you should be more precise what you mean with unrealistic, and which sounds, synth sounds or natural sounds like guitar, piano or strings, what sounds unrealistic?

I think first is:

What sound material do you use?
What sort of monitoring do you use, cheep headphones ore more cheap speakers?

So what I want to say it, that at least a little investment is needed if you use extreme cheap things.

A good pear of headphones, lets say from AKG would change your listening experience drastically.

Now then you can decide if something sounds unrealistic.

First do some basic reading:
http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/pro ... equalizer/
http://www.presonus.com/community/learn ... -tutorial/

Then play around with it, how you can sculpt sounds with parametric EQing. Play A LOT with it.

The generic idea is that by cutting away some frequency ranges in some instruments makes more room for others that need it more.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

So you got the point what I am trying to ask over here?

What do you mean by unrealistic?

I find them very computer generated stuff as compared to other tracks out there or is it just me who is feeling that?

Well it depends if you're trying to generate Acoustic sounds or Synthetic Sounds.

If you're having trouble replicating the most popular Electro House sounds, well it's likely because you don't have the synth responsible for those sounds.

Also, each particular genre has it's own "popular" set of sample styles. For drums you will find an endless supply of "electro house loops" and samples as well.

Trying going on to youtube and search for tutorials on how to make the sounds you're looking for.

Like "how to make Deadmau5 sytnh", etc. You'll find a lot of resources and at the same time be exposed to some more advanced techniques like EQing and Effect Stacking.

Most of those tracks sound fine to me. The only track there I thought had any real problems was Clocks because it's been ruined by too much limiting. Once the track kicks off halfway through, it's just distorted mush with no punch at all.

Other than that, your stuff is sounding OK to me. Nothing 'unrealistic' about it, certainly. Practice practice practice...
