Anyone know of a 32-bit plugin that has MIDI learn or accepts CC7 (NOT BLUECAT!)

Dear Anyone.

I know Bluecat works for this question - sometimes. It's got an ANNOYING habit of forgetting its settings and you're forever re-setting it up.

All I'm after is something that lets me put it on a channel as an insert effect and send CC7 (volume) commands to it. I've got a little pile of wonderful noisemakers that won't accept volume control commands and my old DAW - hence the 32-bit in the heading - does everything with CC commands. I don't care what else it does - as long as it doesn't distort the sound when I put it on the channel strip - as long as it lets me send CC7 commands to it to turn sounds louder or quieter or has MIDI Learn. You'd think there'd be a ton of things out there but apart from Bluecat, which is the most ANNOYING thing to use I've ever seen because it keeps forgetting things and sometimes you have to restart EVERYTHING from scratch to get it working again, I can't find anything!

Anyone know of anything (If it's 64-bit, I'll 'ave a go with Jbridger!)

Yours hopefully

Chris.

Tbh I don’t know if piz MIDI plugin collection can do what you’re looking for but they are 32 bit and free:

What host are you using, does it have a built in midi learn? Having it already set at cc7 just makes it for faster use, it shouldn't be out of reach because you can designate a cc7 for it in your host.

Are you referring to our Gain Suite plug-ins? We are not aware of this issue. Feel free to get in touch to see if we can help. What is this very particular host application that you are using?

Dear Blue Cat.

Only just noticed your reply - about a century later! Yes, I am referring to your Gain Suite - it's always had this problem. It works fine on Channel One. If you're using a multitimbral VST and you try putting it on any other channel - it don't work. It doesn't do anything. It even forgets the channel number you've put in its little PLUGIN SETTINGS box - that goes back to 0 the moment you click OK and try to use it!

On Channel One it works like a dream, every time. It's great. It's just that's the only time you can ever use it - any other channel, forget it! It's always had this hewge bug.

I'm using it in Quick Score Elite Level 2. Think of it as Dorico for dummies! I've got a little bunch of lovely noisemakers that don't obey CC commands. I just wish your plugins worked on channels other than 1!

Yours sadly,

Chris.

Hi,

There is probably a specific issue with this host application, as I cannot reproduce this behavior in any of the hosts apps I have here (which is quite a few).

As you can see in the screenshot below, any number can be entered and it definitely responds to MIDI CCs on these channels.

Have you tried to use MIDI learn instead of inputting the channel manually? (in case it's a keyboard stealing issue).

Also, does the host allows any MIDI channel to go thru plug-ins? The Gain Suite plug-ins indeed do not have a direct connection to MIDI drivers and rely on the host to route the MIDI data. An easy way to verify this is to load the Plug'n Script plug-in demo with the MIDI log preset and check the MIDI events that go thru the plug-in.
