Grey Pro is the latest Acqua plugin suite available in various formats (VST/VST3/AAX/AU). It faithfully emulates 3 of the best American VCA-based compressors from the same renowned brand, well known for its ability to enhance low-end cohesion and deliver a classic, vintage character with minimal distortion.

What you get:

Grey is available as a suite that includes two different plugins: Grey Pro (standard version) and Grey Pro Ultra (full version, with Metering System with Real-Time Waveform display and Knee display).

Details.

The Grey Pro suite accurately replicates 3 different vibrant VCA modules with different sound characteristics although related to the same type of compression, while also introducing new features designed for modern flexibility, catering to the needs of today’s studios. With this plugin, you can effortlessly capture the iconic compressor sound that has graced numerous hit tracks.

Compressor Models In-Depth

Choose from the following equalization models (for Grey Pro / Grey Pro Ultra).
V65: A Vintage VCA hard-knee device for an authentic 70s sound with an Over Easy compression curve.
566: A Class A valve amplification stage combined with the 'V1' VCA module with classic 'Over Easy' soft-knee compression and all the sonic qualities of a typical 12AU7 double-triode valve stage, adding warmth and body to the “tubey” sound.
160SL: state-of-the-art VCA compressor with ultra-low distortion, impressively specified high-performance V8 VCA module with Jensen output transformers and that Classic 'Over Easy' mode.
For each of these modes, there is the relative Auto / Over Easy version that modifies the compressor's behavior to provide program-dependent operation.

What?? you mean AA didn't really give away Grey out of the kindness of their heart??? It was all a marketing ploy to get the gullible to pony up for the Pro version??? Shocking!!!

or you could appreciate your free gift and pass on the paid version, depends if you want the extras or not, either way you got something free.

I just checked, my AA Grey freebie is still working just fine even though people willing to pay more can get a different and improved package over it.

Acting like it's some '90s shareware, soon as it starts sounding good it nags you to pay or something  It is a nice marketing move to give away a free tool that sounds nice and works well, and then reveal a bigger and badder package of similar but improved tools, but it does nothing to make the thing they gave away for free that people were already liking sound any different or worse at all.

Wow they really sunk the hook deep into you. How "generous" of Acustica to withhold their Anti-Aliasing algo from free version the Grey! So now there's 3 sets of plugin versions to clutter up our hard drives. So very generous!!

Not really, but hey! I'll let Kate Nash speak for us....

Then I'll use that voice that you find annoying
And say something like "Yeah, intelligent input, darling. Why don't you just have another beer then?"

I'm not buying the new one, haven't actually bought anything from AA ever, so your assumption is incorrect :scared: I do use the freebies now and then though, including Grey, it's cool and cost $0 man. I do not know what else to tell you.

Are you expecting a company to give you a freebie with 100% zero self-interest? Are you a child? It's still a nice freebie and it still works. I think you're projecting other needs onto a plugin company...

I'm expecting a company to stop playing games and treat it's customers like adults. Release one version of Grey and skip the faux generosity of a freebie that has been crippled.

It does exactly what it did when it was released, to public acclaim. There is an even better one. You can buy that if you want even more of what Grey does. This is extremely standard practice in the industry and nobody came in here thinking they were just doing us a favor. If that was your fantasy and this dispels it for you, that is doing a nice thing for you, because that kind of fantasy has no place in this industry IMO.

There are some great freeware devs and AA is absolutely not one of them, it should come as no surprise that free releases are promotional in nature. They are also still free, and while you can pay more to get more, you get what is already there, for free. Feel like this shouldn't be even 1% controversial. Do you routinely show up in threads for every other company that has a stripped down free version and a more robust commercial version to try to take them down a peg too? If so, why?

The companies that do that don't play games boasting how generous they are giving you a "gift" and then a month later just happen to put out the real version for sale. That's what's despicable. And you AA sycophants just go right along with it. It would be more honest if they at least called the Free version Grey Lite. But no, they present Grey like it's a full fledged version which it obviously IS NOT!

Now if people aren't in agreement with your take that is some weird combination of naive (to expect otherwise) and cynical (to think only you see the obvious thing), they're "sycophants." Alright buddy. Try to keep your jaw off the floor when you see businesses doing promotions, they're generally after your money in the end and that's a healthier expectation to have than to crow on about the betrayal you (alone?) seem to feel. Do you go to a grocer and yell at the guy giving free samples, "HEY! THIS GUY'S A PHONY!"

Starting to think you might be happier if you just pretend the free one doesn't exist. Me, I'll keep using it, to the exclusion of the paid one, because as everyone knows that's what a sycophant to a company does, not buy stuff :hihi:

Actually I don't promise I won't buy it, if I try it and it really knocks me out maybe it would be the first!

I have a substantial investment in AA plugins unlike you who plans his meals at the freebie counter of the grocery.

A good example of money not buying happiness - tell you what, man, if you keep this charm offensive up, you're gonna end up with too many friends to count :P

Are you saying that the free version introduces audible aliasing?`

Can anyone verify?
