TAL-Pha Released! Alpha Juno II Emulation from TAL-Software

I can't get Portamento to work when set to "ON" mode -- it never happens, both with and without the "T" switch engaged (what is the "T" switch, anyway?).
When set to "ALL", I hear the portamento, all the time. but in "ON" mode, which presume might be to only have glide occur when playing legato, though it's certainly not clear, it simply never happens....
EDIT: with Portamento set to "ON", it will occur when playing Legato but only if Voices are set to 1. Not very intuitive, but it works. Portamento with poly voices is only possible in 'ALL' mode, which I guess makes sense.
Anyway -- nice synth! Redominator was very long in the tooth, and I prefer TAL as a company anyway. He's a master of Roland emulations and so an Alpha Juno II from him is very, very welcome.
To the folks complaining about it being "yet another emulation" -- many of us like emulations, there is only ONE other Alpha Juno emulation out there and it's old as hell. If you want an original TAL synth, check out TAL-MOD.

Why add all the modern extra's, without adding more oscillators, envs and lfo's etc.
I'm so bored of 80's emulations, i'd love to see TAL come out with a modern, original release, they always sound great.
Yeah, what a waste of talent, time, and resources.. Unfortunately, there are still so many developers who are obsessed with converting relics from a bygone era into software, just to put their own stamp on it. Instead of introducing something truly contemporary and innovative

I'm shocked, shocked that a developer who has devoted 99% of his career to making vintage synth emulations is still - gasp - focused on making vintage synth emulations. How dare he!!!enCiphered wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:17 pm+1simmo75 wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 4:32 pm Overpriced and underspec'd IMHO.

But let's face it, we're not short of new synths either are we? Just too many synths.enCiphered wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:17 pm Yeah, what a waste of talent, time, and resources.. This one sounds good and is another synth.

I've been playing it for the last hour and rarely hit 9% on my iMac / apple silicon in Ableton Live. Seems like there might be an issue with your specific DAW or something? Nothing I've done so far has even peaked 10% CPU....try the VST3 and see if there's any difference, that's what I'm using, not CLAPIntrospective wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 3:40 pm To say this thing is aggressive with the CPU is an understatement.
Hopefully it's a temporary problem, or maybe it's just the demo, or maybe I shouldn't be using the CLAP version, but: for me, I'mma have to wait. :S

I appreciate the nostalgia but it's disheartening to witness talent and skills channeled solely into recreating the past. Imagine the potential if these developers redirected their energy toward forging the future of sound. Innovation can coexist with homage – it's not an either-or scenario.

There're already lots of great developers taking the innovative way, I don't think we're lacking there. Would I like to see something like a TAL-Mod2? Of course, but I'd rather see Patrick doing things (with passion) his own way.

Sorry if my comment caused upset to fans, each to their own.
Maybe TAL’s audience are the over 60’s who still crave that 80’s vintage sound.
For me it’s been over done
.
Really excited something fresh and new, maybe
Zebra 3 will bring something new to the table.

so skip it and go look for something else perhaps?
I love the alpha juno and its dark moody sound.
Lots of extra options BTW,
osc sync,
osc tune mods,
HPF in 2 variants,
multiple LFO waveforms,
full range mix levels for the noise/sub and the other Saw/Pulse waves, not just 4 preset levels like on the OG
up to 16 voices polyphony
Para eq (nice for sweeping)
Delay
Verb
Unison ( this is really great on the tal synths, better than the chorus)
Its already v1.02

And over 60 here. This does sound better than the Alpha Junos I remember, but the first ones I knew about came in a perhaps redesigned version that my Roland rep brought to us in 1989. I loved its compact size, but thought it's sound was a muddy, muffled POS. Then again, I've never considered myself to be a fan of any iteration of any Roland Juno model. Although I get the market appeal by pricing, there was always something in the same price range that was better to my ears. Every software version I've heard/demo'd of these sound better than the original IMO. And I like TAL for what it is, though again, have not bought anything from them for possibly the same reason.

I'm not complaining but since I already have U-NO-LX, Jun-6V, DCO-106, Diva (which has Roland filters and Alpha waveforms), a DeepMind 12 and a Dreadbox Nymphes, I find it extremely hard to justify purchasing another Juno emulation. Yes I know the Alpha Juno is slightly different but in the grand scheme of things, it's extremely similar to the other Junos.mholloway wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:14 pm To the folks complaining about it being "yet another emulation" -- many of us like emulations, there is only ONE other Alpha Juno emulation out there and it's old as hell. A JX-3P emulation would have been a much easier decision, not many of those exist other than Roland Cloud, or maybe a Jupiter-6 as I wasn't overly impressed with the Cherry Audio version.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care
