You can buy the hardware for $400 here.
This has more features than the hardware, doesn't take up any space, sounds as good (if not better), and is $300-ish cheaper. Sign me up.

That is in fact very enlightening - it's actually a three osc synth when you dig into it, which I am now keen to do. Those effects you pointed me to can only be achieved with cross-mod between two oscillators and, looking more closely, you can choose the waveform of the sub-osc, too, which means it has to be a third oscillator. It's just that you can't set the level for each of the two main osc separately, which is why I stupidly assumed there was just one osc. But watching that guy use it, it is clear there are two.
dellboy wrote: Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:44 amFor instance, how many oscillators do instruments in an orchestra have?
Violins have four oscillators - oscillating strings - as do the other string instruments.
Does a guitar have more than one oscillator?
Yes, it has at least six oscillating strings.
noiseboyuk wrote: Sat Feb 17, 2024 11:39 amIt is only specced and labelled as one DCO.
No, it's not when you look a bit closer. There is one section marked "DCO" but it could be singular or plural. There are two waveform selectors and two lot of controls for other things, then a separate set of controls that only affect Osc 2 - Detune, Sync. It's actually a really nice way of setting it all out. If I'd spent a bit more time scoping it out yesterday, I wouldn't have made a dick of myself.
Chris-S wrote: Sat Feb 17, 2024 11:45 amHi, how to make the GUI smaller? It's too big on my HD (1920) screen.
Like most other VSTi, you grab the bottom-right corner and drag it.

I find all of TAL's stuff to be too expensive. This is showing as US$64 for me, which is OK for what this is. The workflow, in particular, is really good and it has some very nice strings patches. I also like that you can add a few unison voices and still play chords.

Now that I've had a chance to play around with it, I'm reversing my snap judgement and leaning towards buying it. The one thing I'd like to see is overdrive/saturation somewhere in the signal path but I can add that easily enough as an insert, so it's hardly a deal-breaker.

Kvr has to have the cheapest guys on the planet ! This one’s priced perfect and they should ask more for it.

Incredible job from TAL as always.

TAL doesn't live in a vacuum and there are much better ways of spending your money if you care to look around.

So not a good emulation then if it sounds better?
Could be any single oscillator software synth by your description.

Vortifex wrote: Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:53 pm Just me or is the delay sync not working properly? Most of the time it just kind of does its own thing. It'll speed up or slow down with the DAW, but won't actually be in sync. This is with spread at 0.
Same here. It's definitely buggy.

The TAL synths always feel like they're missing something. Some harmonics or presence or something. They are trying to emulate different machines, but they all seem like they have a certain TAL sound to them. Like they don't stand out as much in the mids. Might have to do with the filter, cause It's not something I notice on open filter sounds.

Also, am I missing something or is there really only a single envelope? I don't care if it's accurate with the hardware, there's little reason to not add a 2nd envelope in software.

To those saying TalPha is just a 1 oscillator synth, know it is not, neither original alpha juno, neither any of Junos. They all are 3 oscillator synths just with different waveforms.

What i personally like about them is that when staking those waveforms you dont hear phasing that almost all analog and even va's have. And that makes Junos unique sounding when mixing those waveforms.

Yes, but that handle was outside screen initially.

On most VSTs you have an option to phase lock the oscs or let them free running.

And on most of them if not all it doesnt sound like on Junos. Just try it.

himalaya wrote: Sun Feb 18, 2024 12:12 am What do you think makes the JX8P so enticing warranting an emulation, when the Jupiter-8 is already recreated by Tal?
JX has more options for X-Mod (J8’s one is hard to use in harmonic context). and its sound is more « digital » in a way. Filter is not the same. You can env-control the volume of osc2.
You can access some L.A. sounds when combining 2 sounds (hence the jx10 idea more than jx8p)
I wouldn’t say J8 is a « hybrid » synth where that can be said for the Jx

Yes. The good old Roland sound….. :hyper:
