Sorry, I know this would be much better addressed to Image Line directly, but I'm done with their support forum.

Has anyone else had an issue with the installer .exe files for the DAW itself? They do actually disappear, when I delete them from my PC's downloads folder (and permanently delete from the recycle bin), but they always reappear there again later. And now there's 2 of them that I can't get rid of, taking up a couple of gigs of space.

I’ve had this problem on my Mac a couple of times, one time it was related to cloud storage and something I had deleted from my phone I think, but I’m not sure. The last time I just rebooted my computer and it fixed it.anyway I can’t offer much help except to say I don’t think this is necessarily a problem with the Fl installation file, look into cloud sync maybe

Thanks, I may have found the solution from that article you linked to. But, I don't know exactly how long they were staying deleted before, so I'll give it until tomorrow to confirm that, as it was certainly not as long as a day.

I don't seem to have this problem. Do you have Auto Updates on?

once again its just a problem caused by dumbness of the customer.

The files reappeared again today. I don't have any cloud service / auto updates on. It's also not to do with permissions of the files, which is what I'd done yesterday and thought may have fixed it. It's also not a corrupted recycle bin issue. As it's an FL Studio file, then it's not being caused by that file being malware. Those are the only steps I'm seeing listed as to how to fix the issue of deleted files reappearing.

If not knowing how to resolve this makes me dumb, then that implies the answer is excruciatingly obvious to your higher intelligence. Please, enlighten me O Knowledgeable One :hail:

Try to rename the files. Then delete them. If that doesn't help then there is third party software for this. Or you can use CMD. I had this problem some years ago with some random file. But it was just that i couldn't delete them i think, not that it reappeared. Could be some bigger issue though i don't know.

Also what I'm thinking is they may do it on purpose but nothing nefarious. Sometimes I've gotten an update that breaks something. What I used to do was keep a copy of an installer that I know works on my PC. That way I can go back to it until they fix whatever happened. I remember this happening in the middle of a project I was working on.

Hold the Shift key while you also press Del. That's 'permanent' delete, without going through the recycle bin etc.

Neat, BertKoor.

If it persist i would try something like Recuva and "Secure Overwrite" the file in the download folder and the recycle bin after you have deleted it. Might work.

Renaming it before deleting worked. Weird, since it was for a different issue of files not deleting at all that you had. And none of the many articles you get when Googling "deleted files keep reappearing", suggest renaming as a fix.

Thanks for thinking to mention it!

Thanks for that tip Bert. Can't wait to try that.

Hay. The renaming was just a suggestion out of the blue - have used it with troublesome files before, though. Glad it worked

I used a file deletion software for something a very long time ago on something that refused to uninstall and it worked. So long ago I'm pretty sure the software is no longer around, but they do work.

Cool.

My FL .exe files always came back within 24 hours before, but they haven't yet still, since renaming and deleting them. If they do eventually reappear then I'll check out what file deletion software exists these days.
