OK, but if your definition of the best possible music is: that which lets the singer's real personality, the singer's authentic existence (with their abilities and flaws), shine through?
Yes exactly. Sometimes you want to use it, sometimes you don't. It depends of your genre, your artistic intent, etc.

Yep, this is the interesting part

The question I have is why does the music have to be perfected with pitch correction? Who made that decision? The vast majority of people can't hear the difference anyway, so why do the major releases all have pitch correction when most people can't hear the difference? Just seems counter intuitive when these major labels are putting an extra process into something when they want to hurry up and get out the door

BTW, yes I use pitch correction in my projects, but not on every note. Just the notes that are noticeably out of tune and don't fit the context of the piece.
I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent

Some people say alcohol is a drug. It’s not a drug, it’s a drink.

Some people say alcohol is a drink. Strictly speaking, though, its a category of organic chemical compounds, not all of which are safe to drink.

Which is of course the point. :) Words have multiple meanings, if someone wants to call pitch correction an audio effect, its absolutely legitimate to do so.

'transform' and 'effect' are synonyms. Check a thesaurus, under 'change'

'If.'
It's not a universal definition, though.

Who said it was universal? In any case, this definition is certainly not ridiculous, and is probably shared by a number of people... (Doesn't mean it's my personal opinion, btw  )
My point was precisely to put into perspective the overly clear-cut opinion of Jac459.

Let's see. We have sound generators/instruments (e.g. VSTi, .wav files) and sound modifiers/effects (e.g. VST).

Clear distinction to me.

Maybe it's an affect then.
I still see it as an effect though.

I bought the worst thesaurus the other day. Not only is it terrible, it's terrible.
