Writing as someone who has been programming computers for over four decades, and running a Linux box as his daily driver since '94, I'm quite discouraged by the general direction of desktop Linux. If I wanted all that bloat, I'd have just purchased a consumer box like a Mac or Windows PC. I guess I'm stuck with running the windows version via yabridge or fsthost. I strongly feel a synth should use the native widgets provided, qt and gtk being more or less standard these days on Linux. For porting, many use JUCE even though that's a big ugly build.

Considering the big mouth of Linux, and the aspiration to become a valid alternative to Windows or Mac OS, I think it's perfectly legit to look this gift horse in the mouth.

Not that it will become a valid alternative any time soon. It hasn't been in the last 30 years where people claimed that.

Way to miss the point there.
Unsurprisingly

IMHO that reaction is kinda uncalled for, don't you think? You realize that he gives c3 away as freeware and worked very hard for it? And he also explained why he implemented it that way. In your eyes this might not be done as it should have been done - but he obviously wanted to do it that way for his own reasons - explained above. Kind suggestions are surely welcome. But if for some reason the software doesn't suit you, you're free not to use it.

Of course, it is freeware. Use it freely.
Wait! Is it freeware?
Thanks!
Next RC/Beta is taking a time.

I've just managed to try this out and it's extremely good. I also really like the different additive modes, from the smooth ones to the more jagged stepped ones. I'm able to recreate some really classic oscillators from electric organs and early wavetable synths super easily. It's also very light on resources which is always appreciated.

If I was to suggest anything at all it would be maybe more drawing options for the additive/wavetable mode, maybe more grid options or a morph tool to make things faster. Either way, it's extremely intuitive to use and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

It keeps the good job of his little brothers Charlatan V1 & V2, but adding a lot of options not present in the previous ones.
Charlatan V2 is a must try, it's not about its presets but its sound, great for basses, sub drones & leads.

A little late to the party - but this is really cool to read and hear! We had so much fun with version 1 and 2 back in the day! Downloading!

Your `check_compatibility.sh` script on Linux doesn't work if `ldconfig` is not in the path. Which on Debian systems it is not (only for root).

Using the full path `/sbin/ldconfig` the checks pass though :)

I'm still deep in love with Charlatan V2, I keep reaching for it. Working on making a massive preset collection of ~736 of fine-tuned high quality patches. :) It's been a great solid intro to sound design. Shame the bank size is only 32.

After that I'll dive in head first to C3 :clown:

To be fair, for Linux to become a valid alternative to Windows for the average Joe, conventions and standards should be followed. libsystemd can be considered a standard to be follow, and works fine in the most common and popular distros. The user is using a distro that does not follow this standard, and appears to be oldschool Linux; probably not so interested in Linux becoming a mere Windows replacement with all the bloat required to ensure everything is automated and faultless for non-Linux-enthusiasts.

So I don't think it is exactly a valid complaint; you can't expect a developer to ensure compatibility with every esoteric Linux distribution out there, the ecosystem is just so fragmented, and there can be wildly different configurations going on.

The question is, there will be a beta 4 or can we expect an RC soon?

If I were to keytracked the filter cutoff so the self-oscillation is tubes with the keys, what modulation depth is needed?
