Nice work!

The new skins are refreshing to work with — and while the demo overwrote I2 so I can't compare, first impression is that I3 has a much improved general tone. :tu:

You can now purchase the Icarus 3 upgrade on the Tone2 website! https://www.tone2.com/download.html

However, I don't know if it's just for Icarus 3 or it's Icarus 1 to Icarus 2/3. Just to pay $90 to upgrade from Icarus 2.5 to 3 seems crazy. And downloading the PC version still only shows 2.5.

Post

+1 $90 upgrade from V2 is way too much.

I think the argument can be made that the relatively recent upgrade from Avenger 1 to 2 was about the same price then....
I too do wish the upgrade from v2 to v3 was a bit cheaper than v1 to v3.

look at what's on offer in version 3; obviously, a lot of work went into it. and if the developer feels that that's the price they need to set... that's what it is.

let these people make a living! we use their tools, expect constant fixes, updates... then complain when we have to pay for a new version.

personally, i expect to get paid fairly for my work; i imagine most people feel like that.

I get the point that some owners of v2.5 can feel as they have been unjustly treated. Sadly it's just not possible to always make it right for anyone. If you think so contact our support and we'll try to find an individual solution for you.

Apart from this we kindly ask to stay fair and note the facts:

Icarus2 is nearly half a decade old. In 2022 we released v2.5 which was a very generous free update with lots of new features and enhancements.
The updgrade price to v2.x had been reduced in the price (€59 instead of €79) for 2 years before v3 was announced.
Then there is also a grace period of 5 months for a free upgrade to v3.
At some point we need to jump to a new major version and not everything can always be for free.

Icarus3 is the biggest update that we ever released. It comes with a massive number of new features, 240 new sounds, reworked factory content and lots of enhancements. It was one year of work. And just like anyone else we and our sound designers want to get paid for the work and we need to pay our taxes and cover our running costs. Development won't end with v3.0.

If you think that €79/$89 is too expensive or if you don't want to support our company - don't buy the upgrade. It is fully optional and your current version will continue to work.

Icarus3 is the final Tone2 product and the final major update. After this only free udpates and soundsets will be released.

I just purchased the upgrade. Although the keyfile says Icarus 2, will it work for version 3? When will I get the v3 PC download?

Edit: Nevermind, I found the Icarus 3 keyfile, but still don't see a new version download.

Yes you have a business to run. But surely it's better to get your pricing in a place where the majority are encouraged to upgrade. Something like $59 from V2 would make much more a no-brainer decision. Upgrading from V1 could then be more like $89.

perhaps 'better' pricing can better be determined by the actual developer, than someone on an internet forum who attempts to speak for 'the majority'...

if you don't like the price of something, or a feature, or whatever... KVR is a 'great' place to vent (as we all know :D ) just don't expect your needs to determine how a business operates.

I'm not attempting to speak for anyone; purely giving a POV. I have no inclination to upgrade. Some devs, such as Minimal, do indeed listen and adapt based on forum feedback.

if you're not updating, why is this so important to you? and here is what you said:
