Initially....I was considering Parsec 2...went through a few presets & wasn't impressed and the damn thing is $119(as a Reason Rack.)
Just noticed Thorn & it sounds quite unique & inspiring and it's only $29 at PlugInAlliance! It was originally $200 and now it's $29....very strange(on sale, of course)...but still...why so low? I am seriously considering it.

Buy it.
This Thorn at 20-30usd is a mystery.
It sounds great and huge.
It works well, sounds well and has some unique features like the glitch sequencer.
I also own parsec 2. Parsec 2 is more generalist. Thorn is more into fat sounding stuffs.
But I do prefer Thorn a lot. It is funnier, meaner, dirtier.
Parsec 2 is very powerful too with its wide range of modifiers. But I am often limited by the number of source oscillators.
One point though, I suspect you have reason studio and then Europa, Europa architecture is not so far from Thorn. Reason studios created generalist sounds with Europa trying to let us think it is a generalist synth but it is also a mean little bastard (I mean that in a very loving way).
I am not saying that Thorn and Europa fully overlap, not at all, but they have some commonalities. (But still buy it haha, it is great and fun).

Thorn is one of the more underrated synths IMO.. Sounds huge and is really easy to program and get good unique sounds. There is a lot of overlap with Europa with their spectral filters, but outside of the MSEGs, Thorn is better everywhere. Parsec i find meh, and for the price, id definitely consider Thorn over it.

I hate that Thorn doesn't support poly aftertouch, and I got to Icarus for that instead. I think they are some of the greatest sounding softsynths ever.

Thorn is a beast. I wish more devs would put a Glitch sequencer in the FX section

Downloaded Thorn via Plugin Alliance's manager app...Thorn's dll was installed, but the data folder was misplaced and I can't find it. When I tried to open an instance of Thorn, I received an error message telling me where my data folder should be. So then....the installer knows where the data folder should be, but is unable to put in into the right area? Interesting set up.
I've contacted Plugin Alliance support(but since Native Instruments owns it...I don't expect them to resolve this issue.)
Had I known Native Instruments was behind this beforehand, I would have NEVER even considered buying Thorn.

How did you not know NI run Plugin Alliance?Kross2 wrote: Thu Mar 07, 2024 11:05 pm Downloaded Thorn via Plugin Alliance's manager app...Thorn's dll was installed, but the data folder was misplaced and I can't find it. I had the same issue with Thorn. I simply moved the VST file into the relevant directory and it works. Really not hard to do at all. It's annoying but so easily dealt with in literally 5 minutes that you're just wasting time by running to support over this.
