I also prefer fx of some other dev a lot more and I think I also don't like gui too much and Amplitube is not suitable for my fast workflow. I prefer having most things on one window not having to switch too many menus.
I can see what you mean.
DCrown wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 5:33 am I prefer Tonex, there's a free version.
Isn't that like a software kemper? What is the free version about. Can I just load third party profiles? I have heard that there is a free profile loader as well.

Have you installed and tried Kotelnikov? The free version will be all you need first, it's a masterpiece.

Btw Waves Horizon is only 189,99 $ now.
That is quite cheap for that amount of plugins. I have looked into Kotelnikov. I don't quite know what to make of that stereo sensitvity feature, as well as the peak crest and the destinction of peak and RMS release. You don't see that on most compressors.
SNBeatz wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 4:25 pm I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned ToneBoosters plugins yet.
Thanks for the tip!
SNBeatz wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 4:25 pmStandouts for me would be Kotelnikov, the mixbus compressor king (again, imo), and Nova, an EQ that ranges from general track EQ to full on mixbus dynamics if you need it to.
I'd like to try mixbus compression. Can you suggest settings for a rock mix to me to start out with mixbus compression using Kotelnikov?
SNBeatz wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 4:25 pmLastly, and again this is just from what I saw or didn’t see from reading the first couple pages, I can fully recommend a smaller indie company called SixthSample.

This one looks nice. I guess it pans left and right, adds reverb and EQs the signal to place it in the mix? Pretty convenient.

I wonder where this will take me?

Might look at the Exponential Audio reverbs, if you are ok with ilok and no future updates. They can be found very cheaply used. I see Nimbus for $12 on Knobcloud and Phoenixverb for $15.

Neoverb, which continues their legacy, a license can be found for $10, with some purported future support from Izotope.

Why should I get the older versions when I can get the current for less? What is the downside of buying used?

Take a look at Melda reverbs, particularly MTurboReverb. This thing is nuts.

Cheaper way to go: the LE version.

The classics : Valhalla Room and VV.

In this case, I don't think there is any downside to buying used. The older versions of Exponential Audio reverbs are the current versions. He sold out to Izotope and they "discontinued" those products.

I'm going to check them out then. Very friendly price point. :tu:
Thanks!

I like Melda plugins, but even the LE version is a bit much for me. It sounds very nice.

Valhalla reverbs I'm going to look at for sure, but what is VV?

A lot of compressors lump together peak crest, peak release and RMS release controls into one button labelled "auto release". Kotelnikov gives you a lot of power to tune these parameters, without having many settings that sound really bad.

The key thing to watch while playing with these controls are the little lights by the peak and RMS release sections: this lets you know which is active. The crest control balances how the compressor switches between them; in the max/min settings it will just use one or the other. To really hear what Kotelnikov does, set the crest to Peak mode
and dial in a fast peak release that suits your transients and then shift over to RMS mode and dial in an RMS release that suits your phrasing. Then use the crest knob to place the transition between these in the most transparent position. Then use the level-matched bypass features and marvel at how clean this thing sounds while squashing your material!
