I'm more into rock, metal, ambiance, instrumental music.. I think the vintage vault will have a lot of benefit for me.. Im not sure Steinberg has something similar.
Halion or Falcon?

So I just bought a new computer.. looking to go back into making music. Don't want lots of stuff (plugins..) What your opinion? Should I get Halion 7 or Falcon 3? another option is to pay for the UVI subscription.. But I'm not sure I have the time to use all of these stuff

Dude...I get why you are hung up on Pigments(I have it myself)...but Falcon 3 is a vast universe of sound creation....it's an absolute monster and Falcon 3 is on sale for $200! My advice...the man should take advantage of UVI's sale price and hold off on Pigments....or...he should just buy both, as Pigments 5 is still on sale for $100.BBFG# wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 5:27 pm Neither.
Demo Pigments instead.

I don't have any personal experience with Halion 7...in fact, I had to do a quick Google search on it, to see what it is about. Halion 7 seems to be a great value(with 37GB's of content and the synthesis options seems to be every bit as deep as Falcon 3.) However...with UVI's sale price(along with an included $100 voucher)...you'd be off to a pretty good start. It's a tough call...but they're both great options.alonl6 wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 4:59 pm So I just bought a new computer.. looking to go back into making music. Don't want lots of stuff (plugins..) You seem to be leaning towards UVI though...so considering UVI's current sale, perhaps that's the route you should take...

I have Halion 7 and Falcon 3 and vastly prefer the latter in terms of GUI and UX...just more modern and easier to use. UVI offers constant free updates and has a suburb every growing library of cool stuff to use with it, Halion rarely gets updates and has far less support or packages to use with it.
Falcon is the ultimate 'if you can only have one' synth, covers just about every type of synthesis and has amazing FX and sequencing ability (modular like sequencers inbuilt). Pigments is also a cool synth and good value, but isn't a multitimbral 'workstation' or suitable for of playing massive orchestral sample libraries! Falcon is a bit more like Kontakt + Pigments...

I'm not "hung up" on Pigments as much as I'm completely disappointed in UVI and Steinberg. At this time, Arturia is a far safer bet that can be all that someone just getting back into the mix would need. I'm just advising to stay away from those obvious rabbit holes of entanglement to start.Kross2 wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 6:26 pmDude...I get why you are hung up on Pigments(I have it myself)...but Falcon 3 is a vast universe of sound creation....it's an absolute monster and Falcon 3 is on sale for $200! (And that includes NI as well.)
And if I'm "hung up" on anything right now, it's trying to find Native Linux plugins to do multiengine synths. I might mention Biotek2 in that regard, but it's not quite the level of Pigments yet and AIU, they don't allow license transfers.

-taldrum
-microtonic (not really necessary since a clone+extras aready exist for reaktor by yours truly )
-free spitfire labs
I can totally undestand the appeal of these multisynthesis synths , but in the end they are all too polished and polite .
You can't really go over the top with them because of the restricted internal control modulation rate .
BUtt..If i had to choose one , I 'd go for Halion just for the fabulous FM engine , otoh falcon has a great microtinc inspired drum engine ( per key )

Why do you want to spend money on Falcon if you only want Vintage Vault ?alonl6 wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 4:59 pm So I just bought a new computer.. looking to go back into making music. Falcon is a weird one, I just never reach for it as I find it a completely unintuitive workflow, it never makes sense to me.
Halion 7 would be my choice as it works as I would expect it, and I actually enjoy using it.
I come from hardware though, if you're a math student you may enjoy Falcon.

But joke aside, yes, Falcon workflow requires you to watch a few tutorials and yes you can be efficient with it once you watched them and practiced a bit.
That being said, the presets and extensions of UVI are awesome with good pricing.

I actually jibe more with the Falcon GUI, and I find it a bit harder to go back to Halion after not using it for a few months and remembering where the hell the effects are, for example. It's icons are so tiny, too--Falcon has small icons/buttons here and there, but Halion seems worse for me. Still, if you use either regularly, I don't think the GUIs will be problematic (once you've memorized processes and the GUI details).
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Funny. I have the exact opposite reaction. Once you study just a little bit of its UI and architecture, I find Falcon way more straightforward. The videos are excellent.simmo75 wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 8:20 pm Falcon is a weird one, I just never reach for it as I find it a completely unintuitive workflow, it never makes sense to me.
