I am interested in different kinds of pickups for amplifying homemade instruments as well as inanamate objects and such.

I don't really know anything about it, does anyone know of a good website for this type of thing, or has anyone here done this?

thanks,

This tutorial is an OK start, though I was sure I had a visual one somewhere, too.

Wow, cool!!! :o That seems easy and cheap too!!!

Thanks

Doesn't get much cheaper. ;)

All you need to remember is that a piezo element just picks up vibrations. Experiment with where you place it on your instrument, and you'll surely find a usable spot.

We soldered a contact mic straight to a XLR plug and had a mixer with phantom power. Worked a treat.

They also do some cool DIY/circuit-bent type stuff (like the Weevil series)

I actually was looking into doing that to my piano as I have yet to purchas the pair of AKG 414's that I want to mic it proper. I also that it would be cool to add guitar type efx to a piano. So I figger I need oh about 30-40 piezo elements... :help:

then I need to tune my piano

I use Fishman SBT-C's. Sound great, cost a little more than DIY though.

Thanks for that link, WR. I may indeed have to order one or a 3-pack from them! Saves the headache and the price can't be beat.
