I already posted about this and it came out with mixed results.
Expect a heated debate from music afficionados to be forthcoming. Take cover with butter.

I read the old posts.
Reznor has always mentioned what gear he uses. So what's the big deal? He's mentioned vintage gear, he's mentioned modern softsynths. He doesn't like Windows etc. It is what it is. He just tells you what he uses, gives you his opinion and may talk up the things he's really impressed with. I'm glad he comments on what he uses, it's kinda interesting. He's not full of BS, he get's the job done with the tools he say's he uses, he enjoys some of them more than others. There's really nothing more to say about it.
Bottom line is, Reznor could use nothing but a toothbrush and still make an amazing album. I think some people are ridiculous when they bash him for commenting on the tools he uses, seems like somebody will say that he's in cahoots with the national dentist association if he mentions anything.

The only good thing he did was the album pretty hate machine, it was fresh but now the scene is over. Teen angst dosnt last long.

True, but the factories keep the supply of freshly angstified teens rolling of the production lines so it never really goes out of fashion.
I really don't see the relevance, however. Whilst I lost interest after The Downward Spiral, I don't recall hearing too much electronic stuff in anything he has done in the last 10 years, it seems to me to be dominated by live drums and guitar/bass so he could probably use One-Ping Only and it would be OK. He built his reputation on hardware so, as he fades into the distance, it might be reasonable to assume that using software has killed his career, no?

His audience grew up and moved on to other material *not* based on "I hate you because I hate myself" and he never caught the hint.BONES wrote:it might be reasonable to assume that using software has killed his career, no?

Trent just takes care of tweaking sounds... not just machines, He'd been using Protools a long time ago...

what happens in my opinion is that many people are too snob to admit that a band that sells is not necessarily bad. I mean I love minoritary bands such as Skinny Puppy, for example, but I think NIN is also great. Pretty hate Machine was a good album but it sounds terribly dated. The Downward Spiral is a great album.

I agree there no question..There's some great tracks on that album, lyrical content aside..origami wrote:The Downward Spiral is a great album.
It just gets so f**king weary listening to him talking about wanting to touch the outside of someone's colon with the inside of his pecker, ya know?

i think the fragile just get better and better for every listen.....
and i dont get where this "hate" issues come from...
i would agree on despair though...which a lot of people can relate to.
just hope i translated my thoughts correctly to english
