Have not tested this, at least yet. Does it load over 28khz samples? Because Amiga could do 50khz (also 14bit)

You will be the waiting a long time, this one costs all of $13. I will happily buy this and the Plogue Amiga plugin when it becomes available at some point in 2025 or 2026

Post

I have an Amiga 500 but I am still going to check this out. :)

I think this is going to be the plan.

Isn't this claim wrong about TAL-Sampler?

This doesn't seem "post FX bitcrush" to me?

Here is the description of one resampling mode as an example:

This doesn't seem like a) it's post FX or b) that it's a simple bitcrush (I know the quote doesn't explicitly say "simple", but it still gives the vibe of "oh, they just bircrush the signal at the end, after FX, and we do it more authentically.")

In any case: looks like a super fun plugin!

Not surprised they tried to embellish their plugin's "authenticity" a little. TAL Sampler is great, and this plugin seems well made too.

Had super fun this, crunching up breaks and pads. Only problem is no preset saving (or maybe i missed it???), only at daw level

Post

did anyone check if you get really the old school Amiga 500 sounds?

yeah that would be cool to embed the sample too.

yeah it loads the .8svx files, linked a few posts back

Caine123 wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:12 am im all over it, so do i just need to import samples (mostly from old hardware synths) and go for it? or do i need to set the Frequency and timestretch specifically? does anyone know?
I bought it but didn't read the manual. From what I've found, you can only load one sample at a time (no multi-samples) and it defaults to C3 with 200% time stretch.

I'll try it against TAL Sampler over the weekend and report back.

thanks a lot Uncle, this would be very interesting, afaik TAL Sampler cannot emulate the Amiga 500 sound.

I'll just check to see if they sound similar when the TAL is set to 8-bit. Anyway, this Amigo plugin is fun and I'm happy I bought it.

Yeah I bought it as well because it's so cheap and so far I'm not impressed.

First of all, it's _extremely_ annoyingly buggy, at least in Reaper on Mac OS Monterey as a native silicon plugin. Loop points aren't stored per preset and speaking of presets, the only way I found how to save presets is through the built in system in Reaper (which is fine by me, it's the system I prefer using).

EDIT: Start and end points aren't saved with the preset either.

It doesn't correctly recognize audio files in the browser unless it has some kind of .*** ending. Many of the old school samples don't have any. Yet you can drag and drop these fine into the plugin but can't use the built in browser.

Attack and Release and controls in general are very badly scaled in how the mouse operates them. You can however use mouse wheel on them to get fine tuning but still, just default drag + click should work like 99% of other synths.

Sound wise I guess it's ok but I'm not convinced. Haven't tried the stretching yet.

This needs a lot more time in development before I can recommend it, even for just 15 euros.

As for the time stretching. I have absolutely no idea what the cycle thing is about. To my ears at least it has nothing to do with how AKAI does pitching up and down. Very difficult to use so that it sounds "good" in my opinion. Will need to experiment more with it but so far I'm not at all convinced.

EDIT: The stretching is also weird and bugged. You very easily get into situations where the sample isn't tracking correctly over the keyboard any more. I have one preset here that misses 3 complete semi tones (they all play the same pitch). It's possible that it's user error on my behalf but yeah, whatever it is, it isn't fun to use at all and most definitely doesn't sound like AKAI pitch shifting at all.
