I wanted to try out max/msp today and downloaded the time limited demo. When I start it I get about 10 error messages about a missing MaxAudio.dll. I have installed the full quicktime/itunes package (which is crap, but required for max).

Some months ago I also tried it, but then my machine restarted when I launched max.exe.

I have a celeron 700 processor, and the Cycling '74 site says that the minimum requirement for max is a P3. Could this be the problem?

Or.. could anyone send me this MaxAudio.dll? :help:

which OS are you using? It must be XP. During the beta testing phase some users have reported that it was working fine with 2k as well though.

It won't work with Win 98

Also,I'm not sure about the final product but the beta used PACE for copy protection.A corrupt PACE driver(or one designed for a different OS)could definitely have caused the rebooting issue...

The Celeron is most likely contributing to problems.

Unlike the P3 the Celeron is missing many features. I believe SSE isn't supported or if so only on a minimum level. I had a Celeron 600 many years ago and the difference between a similar speed P3 was enormous. Also I think the cache is pretty small and somewhat hobbled on the Celeron.

It's fine for doing business reports but not all that for a music machine though I ran Cubase VST 5.1 and about 4 plugins without trouble. Orion Pro ran well on it, wouldn't know about Platinum.

You can work with it, I did for a couple years, including burning CDs. I'm waiting for a s/n on my Athlon XP2400. I'll let you know if I encounter any problems...
