How anyone can think FLA is better than NIN is beyond me. As much as I dislike reznor for being a whining little bitch that wallows in self-pitying angst, FLA's greater crime is forever singing about cybernetic warfare with cyborgs.
For industrial stuff, Pig (Raymond Watts) is the one man that I return to for some good shit. His side projects (Schaft, Schwein..etc) are quite nice too, including the one reunion album he did with KMFDM. Earlier Meat Beat Manifesto stuff is also up my alley (around the time of 99% and Satyricon). Bigod 20 was my thing back then too--I liked them more than Front 242.

it's called opinion, there's lots of it round here. For example, I think all of that sort of music is total shit.Lunatique wrote:How anyone can think FLA is better than NIN is beyond me.

I think what Lunatique is really trying to say is that your opinion and your musical distaste is shit!:box:CypherOne wrote:it's called opinion, there's lots of it round here. Music is subjective, however it's probably still worth arguing about if both sides are up to the debate, if for no other reason than to learn from one another.
Personally I think Trent's music is the most incredible thing I've ever experienced in my life, for me it doesn't get any better. Some people think their family, sexual partner, sports team, religion etcetera as the most amazing things in their life. But not me. I tend to learn, gain inspiration, comfort, pleasure, knowledge etc. from listening to Reznor's music. For me his lyrics and music are noncompromising, important, deep and genius. It takes a lot of work to really understand and fully appreciate all that in there, there's more depth to it than what about 90-95% or so of most people will notice. His music and lyrics are layered, the quick fix people will just notice the surface area and be done with it, think they have it all figured out. Ever noticed that sometime words have more than one meaning? It can sometime take a while to figure out what all the meanings are.
All the above being said, I still can see how someone who only dances, casually listens, or is on a different wavelength can underappreciate NIN. That's what gives different colors to the world. At least we have variety.
So to each their own.

I thought this was supposed to be about the software, not people bitching about how much they hate the band. And it's just silly to sit around arguing over wether or not a band is good. It's just music. Dance to it, rock out to it, cry to it, don't sit around picking at it with a magnifying glass and pointing out its flaws. Or go promote something you like instead.

LOL @ at the FLA comment. However, they still have some really great shit, when I first heard Tactical Neural Implant I must have listened to it for 3 months before giving it a rest. But I really don't understand how you can dis FLA and then praise Raymond Watts. That guy is retarded.Lunatique wrote:How anyone can think FLA is better than NIN is beyond me. Well, FLA does make some catchy stuff.trauma_complex wrote: But I really don't understand how you can dis FLA and then praise Raymond Watts. That guy is retarded.
What I like about Raymond Watts is that he pulls no punches in depicting the darkness of the human soul--the filth and the evil beneathe the civilized veneer of a human being. I like how primal he is in his instinct, and the fact he makes no apologies and presents those elements in pure, raw form. He does not whine, complain, or feel sorry for himself or see himself as some victim like Reznor, nor is he cold, distant, or irrelevant like FLA. Musically, he's heavily influenced by Foetus, but he really brings some of his own brilliance to the mix, using orchestral elements and other eclectic styles like big band, swing..etc (I like Sister Machine Gun and Consolidated for the same reason--they fuse industrial with other musical styles like funk, blues, jazz..etc). The fact that his idea of the most hardcore music in existence is Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring tells me that he's got more sophisticated taste then a group like FLA. His vocals are a lot more humanistic, as opposed to the typical industrial vocals where effects are heavily abused.

Okay well maybe I haven't heard enough "Pig" but the last time I checked his vocals were totally wack, like, so much that I actually felt embarrassed for him. And the lyrics..
f**k ME
Amuck, here I hide
A severed head I keep alive
Ive got losers blood, heres my pride
looking down the barrel of a forty-five
*Stick me, leave, dont say you need me,
Dick me, suck me, come on,
f**k me
f**k me
f**k you
f**k me
f**k me
f**k you
You dont have to look at the man,
to be swinging, poking in the fire
I'm young dum, full of fun
I feed my fire, fist in me cum
The light of my life is a switchblade knife
This gun becomes my lawful wife
Fick mich,
Fick mich,
Fick mich,
Fick mich,
I wanna kill, I wanna cut,
alright shut up
I wanna feel myself tonight
I wanna feel this noose grow tight
I will devour and taste the power
as I crawl my tonic mile
Caress your stubborn hair
when I was a flaming lover
I don't know how this song could actually NOT irritate someone.

BWA-HA-HA-HA!!!! Jeez who said something about teenage angst? Woo..ha...ha
How come people are comparing NIN to industrial?
I just dont hear the connection.
A couple "cylinders clanking" samples make it industrial? Its not like industrial at all, you can actually listen to NIN
Trent is not German either
this is a jest
ps. What plugs do you think Trent uses?
and did anyone ever hear anything about Tapeworm - Trent n' Maynards project?

I think Trent said that the Tapeworm project is not going to happen anymore. You'd have to read through his website archives for the full explanation.
He did help out with one of the songs on the latest A Perfect Circle album, though.

Well, you picked one song out of his entire career and that's just a tree in a forest. How about I pick another one:
Blades
You hold my head, I cannot hurt
You touch my heart, I cannot bleed
You close my eyes and I can see
Caress my skin my sickness sleeps
My dreams are golden
My dreams are golden
She said "The leper sleeps tonight"
She said...
The greatest good for the greatest number
From the greatest evil comes though they slumber
The greatest triumph proves the greatest blunder
Greatness dies but will still hunger
She strokes and tumbles into my vein
She gently turns the tide of shame
Steal to the city with no name
The scent of darkness smothers pain
My dreams are golden
My dreams are golden
She said "Your wounds will heal tonight"
She said...
The greatest good for the greatest number
From the greatest evil comes though they slumber
The greatest triumph proves the greatest blunder
Greatness dies but will still hunger
