Why did you leave Studio One?

With the removal of being able to buy Studio One addons outright, I was afraid this would be happening and today just confirmed it. I've seen this happen way too many times.

Except, as has been pointed out, you can still buy add-ons through the application so all that's changed is the way they deliver that useless krap to you. It amazes me that you don't seem to understand that.

I just went and checked this out. I logged into my PreSonus account in the Shop tab on the right-side browser in Studio One 6.6 and found I can still purchase add-ons outright. For example, the Fat Channel Solar 69 EQ can be mine for $29.95 excl. VAT.

But you can't fault anyone for thinking that add-ons were now only available through a Studio One+ subscription, because that is literally what the PreSonus shop tells you.

But yes, we can all back away from the ledge now, myself included.

It seems that PreSonus has merely resorted to trying to trick people into getting a Studio One+ subscription, rather than outright strong-arming them into it.

Did you check to see if all of the S1 addons including the new Lead Architect synth are available in your account for purchase?

as if intentionally lying on their website now makes it any better, that makes them even worse in my eyes. And yes, I was already aware of it, I even notified someone else about it in this thread.

If the perpetual license you get from Studio One Hybrid is upgradable, then it is actually cheaper for new users wanting to buy Studio One Pro than buying a perpetual license on its own.

Perhaps the reason for this is to boost the number of Studio One+ subscribers on paper, going back to the apparent pressure PreSonus is feeling to increase subscribers. Also, they're probably hoping Studio One+ subscribers become so entwined in the subscription ecosystem during the year they're 'earning' their perpetual license that they stick with it, in particular by making some stuff exclusive to Studio One+.

PreSonus would probably argue that there has always been content exclusive to subscribers, going back to PreSonus Sphere, but that content was only stuff like certain videos from Gregor and Joe. Making an actual production tool exclusive is a bold new step, and for the first time makes subscribers potentially dependent on their subscription with no easy way out. Get the kids hooked on a subscription addiction.

Conspiracy theory: Presonus will acquire Bitwig and merge the DAWs somehow or offer both DAWS on a single subscription plan. They both invented DAW project format for projects to be interchangeable and now both on same payment model, plus Studio One working on Linux support.. Would make sense because they both focus on different areas of production.

The minute they were acquired by Fender the writing was on the wall... went back to looking at Live since v12 was announced... just so happened to LOVE it, then the S1 v6.6 announcement and the subscription nonsense made my mind up for me.
It's been 8 years, but farewell S1!

Thanks for looking into it. This whole subscription shananigan does not sit well with me so I won't upgrade anytime soon if ever. The news made me fire up Logic Pro once again and surprisingly it made me realize why at one point I chose it over S1. I also use Nuendo 13, Bitwig 5, and on occasions Reaper 7.

It's highly likely that V7 will come out within a year, so I as an owner of V5 Pro would have to pay 300$ to upgrade now plus then get V7 when it arrives; whereas someone who doesn't own anything from them yet will get it for 180$

Or you can do nothing and wait until v7 shows up and move from 5->7 for $149.00. Not seeing any difference in your angle here.

That you chose NOT to get v6 when it was released has nothing to do with this. And it has nothing to do with moving to v7 either. The only thing that is relevant is that you missed out on all the things v6 has to offer.

If anything - compared to me (v6 user) you just saved yourself $149.00 by jumping over a version.
