So what you are saying is Presonus have found a cheaper way for you to upgrade and you get all the free + stuff, sounds like a win! Just subscribe now and you will get 6.5, then if 7 comes out in less than a year you will get 87 as well (to keep) and its cost you less than upgrading your 'perpetual' version!jens wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2024 10:28 pm But if I want to upgrade my V5 Pro license to V6, I have to pay 150$ - and if V7 comes out in half a year, I have to pay 150$ again - so that's 300 for a current owner ofV5 Pro vs 180 for a new customer.
Why did you leave Studio One?

As far as I understand:THE INTRANCER wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2024 5:22 pm I'm puzzeled, why would someone pay $399 for Professional when you can get it for $179? Whats the catch?
Perpetual license:
* Full price $399
* ALL updates until next major release (e.g. v6 --> v7), usually roughly 2 years
* Upgrade fee $149 (or cheaper when on sale)
Hybrid license:
* Full price $179
* ALL updates for 365 days, after that only minor updates (e.g. 6.6.0 --> 6.6.1, but NOT 6.6.0 --> 6.7.0)
* "Upgrade fee" $179 (annual renewal of subscription)
I'm not sure if it has been clarified whether or not you can upgrade Hybrid license to next major perpetual version with the perpetual upgrade ($149) or if you are then stuck with the Hybrid license.
If the latter is true, then you could sit out some time (wait e.g. 1-2 years or so) and then renew the subscription. Then you are "in" again.

Anyone know if the licence you get when you stop subscribing is NFR? Seem to me you are dipping in and out every couple of years to the Hybrid+ you will end up with a lot of separate and fairly recent pro licences to sell!

No info on that in their FAQs: https://www.presonus.com/de/studio-one- ... d.html#faq
Another thing: It would be pretty shitty if your Hybrid subscriptions ends shortly after a new Studio One version has been released. As we all know, the early versions are a bit "skimpy bill" (if that's the correct idiom), so, in the worst case, you might end up with something really buggy, which you can't even update.
I'm not sure if they really thought all this through thoroughly...

From the wording it does seem like you lose the major point upgrades, which seems an odd choice, but you can still upgrade without another annual sub and pay just the standard upgrade fee like the rest of us on perpetual licensesAfter your Hybrid plan ends, you can get access to Studio One Pro’s major "point" release updates (Ex. X.1, X.2, etc.) by purchasing a Studio One+ Monthly plan, renewing your Studio One+ Hybrid plan, or purchasing a standalone Pro perpetual license upgrade (Pro-to-Pro) at any time. All three purchase options are available for users on non-updating Pro licenses.
I'm going wait and see what they do with v7 before I make any decision on switching although, it's not like the grass on the other side for the popular DAW's apart from maybe FL studio with their one time fee and forever updates

Considering you get a perpetual license of Studio One for that, which even gets bug fix updates after the subscription runs out, it's a great deal.Tulihenki wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2024 6:16 pm Hm.. Hybrid is temping for me. 180e per year aint imo bad. I use Bitwig but thinking Studio one to company it.

$399.00 is for a brand new perpetual license. Which is "updatable" for the duration of a typical S1 cycle. $149.00 is (our) usual upgrade cost when moving from major version to major version. (like v6->v7)THE INTRANCER wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2024 5:22 pm I'm puzzeled, why would someone pay $399 for Professional when you can get it for $179? Whats the catch?
All other "plans" now are all subscription. The new one "Hybrid" - "can" get you a perp license - but you first need to quit your plan (and not renew).
This perp license is unlike my perp license. The one you get for quitting is "non-updatable" - meaning whatever version of S1 you were rocking - when you quit - is the one you get access to - forever.
Example - If I am rocking along on Hybrid and then decide to quit - and I was using S1 7.02 (for example) - the best I can ever do is hope for a 7.03.
If the next "maintenance" update jumps "out" of the 7.0.x series and moves to 7.1.0 - I am SOL. I cannot upgrade to it using this "free" perp license I got after quitting my plan.
In order to get to 7.1.0 (and beyond) - I would need to restart Hybrid OR buy a new "Updatable" perp license.
You can see how this could get very expensive vs just having a standard perp license.

See the quote from the Presonus FAQ which has been posted a few posts above yours:

Your solution involves throwing money at the problem.
Mine - the definition of "perpetual" (in this case) - is to NOT throw money at it.
AKA - use that perp license you get when you quit for perpetuity - and pay no more.
AND - you are confusing the term "non-updatable" with "non-upgradable"
Perp license you get when you "quit" is "non-updatable" - you cannot apply a 7.1.0 to a 7.0.2 install
Perp license you get when you "quit" is (apparently) "Upgradable" - but that requires more money.

Nope, you claimed that the unlike a normal perpetual license the perpetual hybrid license was "non-updatable", which is patently false. You just don't get the major point updates for free.

Again - not understanding "updateable" and "upgradable".jens wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:30 pm Nope, you claimed that the unlike a normal perpetual license the perpetual hybrid license was "non-updatable", which is patently false. You just don't get the major point updates for free.
The perp hybrid license is "non-updating" (from the Presonus site):
"The non-updating perpetual license a user receives after their Hybrid plan ends includes the latest version of Studio One Pro along with Studio One Pro’s core library of content, including Ampire and additional effects, loops, and samples, but does not provide any additional Studio One Pro major “point” release updates (X.1, X.2, etc.)"
As in - you are on 7.02 Hybrid and then quit.
There is no 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 for you - unless you restart your sub.
OR buy a full (upgradable) perp license.

nah - an upgrade would be switching from Artist or Prime to Pro (or from Prime to Artist)...Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:25 pm you are confusing the term "non-updatable" with "non-upgradable"
