That would be the shortest release cycle - ever - for a major version of S1:THE INTRANCER wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 3:22 pm Release of Studio One 6.0, 29th of September 2022, humm I've a feeling it's going to be much earlier this year for 7.0.

Though, Fender might want them to get the move on to v7 sooner than later, so they can properly gauge users desire (= economic potential) of the new subscription model, and away from perpetual licenses (= increasingly unattractive income generator).
Bigger picture, my view is that dragging things out does nobody at Corporate HQ any favours. I think there's only one maybe two more (free) v6.x.x updates viable before all focus must go into shiny new toys/features to make v7 an absolute 'must have' upgrade and really get some momentum into those S1+ subs...
Also, watch out for monetising those add-ons at some stage, with a selection of 'premium' tiers etc, etc...
My guess - v7 out before years end.

Well if history is a guide. Prior to this one - there had only ever been two "point 6" cycles for Studio One.thebutler wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 4:31 pm Bigger picture, my view is that dragging things out does nobody at Corporate HQ any favours. And - it seems Presonus has a thing of doing "point 6's" only for "even" major versions (2,4 and now 6). All odd numbered versions of S1 have never had a point 6.
The first was for V2 - v2.6.0 was released on August 29, 2013 to be followed by 5 more "point 6" updates taking S1 to v2.6.5 on Dec 8, 2013
The next "point 6" was Dec 10, 2019 (v4.6.0) and two more updates followed ending with v4.6.2 on Jun 3, 2020 (That was a LONG 6+ months there)
I suspect we will easily have a couple more "point 6's" to come for v6 and easily move into 2025 before v6 is supplanted by a V7.

I like your enthusiasm and your stats and all VP...
But I fear all that will not have mattered too much as far as Fender are concerned, when they weighed up why they wanted to take Presonus under their wing.
All I'm thinking is you can be pretty sure they have a steely focus on their very own version of how things will be, going forward, for both hardware and software - regardless of past performance (successful or otherwise).
It's usually considered the kiss of death with these types of takeovers, to simply 'stand still' or just follow previous practices/work flow, in the hope that's the right recipe for growth. The parent company always want to tinker.!
Though you could be right 100% of course; and I'll have egg on my face.! Ha.! Lets see...

It's definately going to be released before 2025.
Also note that was it only a year between V3.5 and V4.0 which was a significant update. And if my memory serves me right was in May of each year.

Thanks!
Well - I have had a couple of conversations with some internal folks over there over the years and despite what the world thinks of the Fender acquisition - it is very clear (to me anyway) that Presonus is (and continues to be) their own entity and continue to do what's right for them (ultimately for us)thebutler wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 5:26 pm But I fear all that will not have mattered too much as far as Fender are concerned, when they weighed up why they wanted to take Presonus under their wing.
And what's right for them will be right for the parent company in the longer term.
Espeically when it comes to the development of Studio One. Can't imagine some guy with a Fender badge hanging out in the S1 labs in Germany - waving a finger at the crew over there.
Never forget that Fender is a giant company and while Presonus is part of that overall portfolio - they are just one of many. Fender has much bigger things to deal with than worrying about when v7 of S1 will come out.
Of course - they will ask the questions and have certain expectations like any parent would - but I also sense they trust the instincts of the Presonus crew they retained after this deal went down in late 2021.
I have no concerns about Fender somehow sticking their foot in the door and altering S1 as we know it. If anything - given what we have seen come into S1 in the last year or two - it feels like it's a good thing.

Whenever Studio One 7 comes out, I just hope it introduces part containers for automation with flexible destination assignment.

So that solves the reason why you can't buy any add ons from the website because they're bringing in a new store where you can still buy the add onsThere was no change to the current Perpetual license. If you've lost any add-ons or plug-ins that you once had, please let us know! As we work toward a unified software and hardware direct store for customers, our current direct software shop and legacy website are being shutdown. We hope to bring back some form of software add-on direct ecommerce or add-on ownership alternative in the future.
But the good news here, most add-ons and items previously available on the PreSonus software direct shop are still available from retailers!

Hey, let's screw up our customer-facing stores and cut off sources of income rather than presenting the change as a fait accompli! Yeah, that's the ticket!Digivolt wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 5:45 pm Caught this on Facebook

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Probably should have lead with that - instead of having this devolve into the mess it has become.Digivolt wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 5:45 pmSo that solves the reason why you can't buy any add ons from the website because they're bringing in a new store where you can still buy the add ons

This 6.6-update has made me very uneasy with Studio One and Presonus.
I have bought and paid for this DAW since v1 and paid full pro versions all the way to v6 and I´ve felt that it was a solid DAW.
Not anymore.
Of course I smelled a rat when Presonus started the subscription model a while back, and I´ve several times complained generally about subscription models on this KvR-forum. This Studio One 6.6-update, again, confirms the suspicions about what happens when a company starts that route and what happens to the customers.
So, now in v6.6, even if I´ve paid for the full pro version, I won´t get all the functionality -- Presonus releases a new softsynth for the DAW and I still won´t get it if don´t subscribe.
The point is not if I really want/need that synth or not. The point is leaving the loyal pro-customers out in the cold.
Of course now every sensible Studio One pro-customer asks, what is the next move from Presonus that abandons the pro customer? What more functionality will they block me out of if I don´t subscribe?
Will perhaps my version 6 be the last one for non-subbers and version 7 will be sub model only? How long will v6 then work then before it´s total abandonware and won´t work with new computers?
Naturally, I´m VERY disappointed and, if Presonus won´t walk back this VERY SOON, I´ll look at Studio One with totally different eyes.
Presonus, haven´t you learned anything from the Waves-debacle a while back? Screwing your loyal customer base like this is a very SHITTY thing to do!
Is it time for that tedious work of going over all projects in Studio One and render everything as midi and audio tracks and make them ready for migration to an other DAW?
Damn it.

We'll have to wait and see what happens in the future.
I hope that people will vote with their wallet, and give the subscription a pass, but, I don't have my hopes very high in that regard, TBH. Democracy sucks sometimes.

It´s not democracy. More like order 6.6, if you catch that Star Wars reference.chk071 wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 8:48 pmI agree.hebex wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 8:42 pm So, now in v6.6, even if I´ve paid for the full pro version, I won´t get all the functionality -- Presonus releases a new softsynth for the DAW and I still won´t get it if don´t subscribe.

That would be about 900 days - I don't think we're going to see such a long cycle again.
