On Mac M1, 14.4. This used to be a rare but not regular issue for me, and could pretty much always be rectified by making a change in the Info.plist file in the Contents folder. But now I'm having this conundrum regularly and nothing I do can change the plugin.component from being a folder instead of an AU file. How can this be done? And what might be causing this to happen that I can change in my system settings? Thanks for any wisdom! :)

Copy from another AU (via "Show Package Contents") the PkgInfo file inside of the Contents folder, and paste into Contents folder for whatever audio units show up as folders ... and the system will no longer recognize them as folders. I believe the contents of that file tell the system what type of package. Easiest to copy from a working one. Same can be done with VSTs.

Whoever is creating the component package is not including it, for whatever reason. You might enquire on the dev why they are not doing it. It is a sign of poor build management, and poor QA, if you ask me. File a bug report is my advice.

"sudo SetFile -a B /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Whateverplugin.component"
