I was just about to mention Smack Attack myself. I love the customisability of it, but it's also simple and straightforward enough.

Then there is the old SPL Transient Designer which is even simpler and good for more bold transients. Opposing that is Elysia nvelop which is good for more fine transients. Then there is iZotope's Transient Shaper which is multband and offers a lot of flexibility.

They're all great it just comes down to speed vs flexibility, depending on your need at that moment.

+1 for HOFA IQ Transient and Kilohearts Transient Shaper.

The HOFA one is a damn workhorse and can do really interesting EQ like shaping with the separate transient/sustain settings

Kilohearts is great for electronic stuff, especially when you're shooting for heavy changes followed by saturation/distortion. The pump control can alleviate a lot of “tubbiness” when you start crushing. Just make it a habit to always follow up with a gain plug since it has no output gain outside of Snapheap or Multipass

If you're interested in transient shaping here's a tutorial on one of the original, and still unique, transient shaper - the omnipressor.

The plugin:

Omnipressor isn't a typical transient shaper. It's more of a weird compressor/expander that "pushes" things around the threshold (either boosting or cutting amplitude). Still, it's threshold based, meaning it doesn't have the typical dual envelope follower trickery (the concept invented by Ruben Tilgner when he was working for SPL).

@aagnello:

Do you happen to know if it's possible to send old Omnipressor units for repair to Eventide? Is it still possible to get those serviced?

I use bittersweet, not bad

Can't remember the last time we repaired one but, sure, send it to me and I'll have someone take a look. If the DBX module died it may not be repairable but we should have inventory of everything else (except those darn meters).

If you compare various transient shapers please include Sonic Anomaly Transpire and Sleepy Time Transient. In my opinion they easily hold up to most of the payware offerings.
