me? no, im not calling people idiots, it's a legal thing, "the average man in the street" or "only an idiot" it's how they talk, regarding copyright claims.

It looked like you were calling anyone here an idiot if they thought there was an issue with how it looks compared to Saurus.

Quick, call the copyright police, apparently there's more than just Behringer using skeuomorphic designs with faux wood, round knobs, backlit switches and and a dark background for the twiddly bits:

As for the blue screen with the envelopes, it's obviously lifted from here:

doing knock-off visuals on a plugin is so thoroughly on-brand for behringer that I can't believe they didn't rip it off someone. otoh, it's clearly different to saurus – it's more like the offspring of an unholy union between saurus and the novation vstation.

as i say, there are similarities, but nothing concrete, knobs are different, placement, and overall gui, all different enough that they could not be mistaken for one another.

to explain a little, ive been following the lidl and aldi cases, lots of similar looking brands to major brands, but all dismissed in claims, due to the fact "the average man on the street wouldn't be fooled, only an idiot would mistake the two"
im on my phone so cba doing photos, but check lidl "yeast extract" it's very marmite looking at a glance, but doesn't infringe copyright, despite layout and colouring of label being far closer than these two synths.
only the lawyers profited here.

People keep mentioning the wood panels etc.
I took one look at this gui in the first post and it instantly reminded me not of u-he who use wood panels, uad who also use wood panels, softube who also use wood panels, but tone2 and only tone 2...
it isn't just the wood panels or even the knobs...
It, for me and quite a few others here obviously, reminds them of tone2 stuff.
I haven't much followed or had need to follow UI copyright laws but for sure in song (best example and the one I disagree with but there is now precedence, is the Blurred Lines law suit) when feel/vibes/makes you think of mattered.
I think, emphasis on think, that for instance Urs contacted Dave Smith when he was doing Repro..

I never knew anything about the Aldi lawsuit till mentioned above so I googled it.
https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail- ... -employees
it seems " Aldi claims the ex-employees breached non-compete and non-disclosure agreements by accepting jobs at Lidl and then providing the company with proprietary, confidential trade information from Aldi", very much different than the customer confusing the two.
https://casetext.com/case/aldi-inc-v-maraccini-4
These may be more pertinent to the topic imho.

the sad truth is, even if it was a 100% copy, such cases depend on being able to afford to go to court, and usually, the company with the biggest bank account has the advantage.zvenx wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2024 2:09 pm People keep mentioning the wood panels etc.

So let me get this straight, you market Saurus by statingTone2 Synthesizers wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:18 am Many people have asked us if we are involved in the development of 'Behringer Vintage' as the art style seems to be very 'inspired' by Tone2 Saurus (https://www.tone2.com/saurus.html).
We are not collaborating with Behringer in any way. We are not responsible for the graphics, sound engine or anything else related to 'Behringer'. We have not licensed our graphics or art style to Behringer and are currently investigating whether our intellectual rights have been infringed.
*Saurus can do an extremely authentic emulation of analog synthesizers. It covers all important aspects of the most famous and expensive analog synths"
Did you get permission from those companies when you emulated their IP? Did you get permission from Sequential when you stole their art style for this plugin?
Then you state
"That's why Saurus comes with a filter section which models the most famous analog filters."
Did you get permission from Moog and Sequential and Oberheim when you modeled the filters used in their current products?
The hypocrisy you are displaying here is rather stunning
Are we supposed to feel bad for you that you think someone was inspired by your plugin? When you openly market the fact that you stole the IP of other companies for your product?

This is the difference between making ketchup and putting the Heinz keystone symbol on the label of your bottle of ketchup. Technically it may be permissible since it actually serves as a logo for the US state of Pennsylvania (or possibly not, but assume for the sake of argument it is), but it's skeevy as heck.IvyBirds wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2024 2:32 pmSo let me get this straight, you market Saurus by statingTone2 Synthesizers wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:18 am Many people have asked us if we are involved in the development of 'Behringer Vintage' as the art style seems to be very 'inspired' by Tone2 Saurus (https://www.tone2.com/saurus.html).

Anyways, I swear they did this just to stir up controversy. I find it hard to believe they couldn't come up with their own UI design. It's not like the similarities are because they both emulated the same hardware synth (see the Prophet UIs above); neither of these synths are a full emulation of anything in particular.
p.s. anyone arguing that this isn't a blatant ripoff of the tone2 GUI isn't worth taking seriously. And no, the faux wood has nothing to do with it. Everyone knows faux wood makes softsynths sound more analog.
