It’d be interesting seeing how it would fair running two cpu heavy presets layered from pigments playing as many keys as possible, makes sense they just optimized it more recently

There's also no need to complicate things. $2000 = the prize Arturia has set for this keyboard. Either works or it doesn't.

I'm rather surprised that there is a target audience for something like this. And a big one, obviously, as big as this announcement, and the background theme (25 years Arturia) is.

There's always an M1 Air on craigslist here for under 1k, coupled with Keylab you're getting far more control and same deal, no moving parts etc. Likely far more RAM and drive space since the fact they aren't showing the specs indicates a lack. Couple it with Komplete MKIII and you get poly aftertouch.

I think they really missed the mark with this.

I watched the videos, 'red means recording is pretty honest'. Its 'fine', unlikely any one who makes music in a studio will want/need it and the tiny screen/jog wheel thing is a massive fail. Arturia have been really good with new hardware synths, this is the first thing they have launched which seems like a massive lemon to me, an expensive pre-set player

I thought about writing this down as a prediction, but didn't because it's been done before and it's always clunky and overpriced. Arturia likes losing money, I guess.

Yes. The same cut rate itemization could be had for a number of keyboard manufacturers today.. they all overcharge for the hardware you're getting. But the price is the price.

And it is up to the customer to decide if that price (cost) is a prize (gift) to them. This is likely not going to be a huge money maker, but something Arturia felt would still turn a profit.

I am a bit surprised they only announced a single product for a 25 year anniversary and hype fest though.

In the price bracket it's aiming at, it's tough competition from the likes of Novation Peak, Nord Lead A1, Hydrasynth deluxe, the 2 korg special editions of Wavestate, Opsix, Roland Juno X, Osmose etc

I'm not sure all of those are competing. Even the Wavestate is very different from an Opsix. and both are very different from a Hydrasynth. And all 3 are very different from a Juno X.

This is more like a stage keyboard. I can't say stage piano because it has more sounds than piano type. But it is effectively a preset player with a simplistic looper and an arp.

It isn't a synthesizer. It isn't a workstation. It is in a strange place probably for many, but I think where it shines is for those who want to produce on a computer with the arturia instruments and then take those sounds live. They could then load the same sound from the same sound engines into the keyboard and play live. For that it is probably a really simplistic workflow.

If you need to greatly control parameters on the fly, this probably isn't it for you.

There will always be a target audience for good gigging keyboards

The problem for Arturia is this ain't one of them. It's been universally panned on every forum, Reddit, and Facebook group I have seen, and I belong to multiple Arturia Fanboy groups as I am an Arturia Fanboy

For the money they are asking there are multiple other keyboards from other brands that are far more feature rich.

If you want to play Arturia presets live spend hundreds less and buy a MODX. You get Yamaha's fantastic Rompler Engine AWM2, a giant factory library including better pianos and organs than what's in V Collection, more hands on controls, a phenomenal FM engine and the ability to load user presets into AWM2 and a copy of Sample Robot that will host any VST including Analog Lab and the V collection and make a preset for MODX. One that gives you the same controls as Astrolab

So it's basically a preset player for all their engines with minimal controls. No PAT, and you gotta buy their V Collection (?) if you want to edit all the engines and or program new sounds. (?)

I guess if you already own all or a few of their synths, don't mind re-buying the ones you got, and you want to be able to take up to a million presets on the road for some reason, it's a super deal at $1600. (or is it 2k?)

I'll pass, but hey, I've never been crazy about Arturia and I currently don't use their products. The SQ80 is decent.

Wish this was "Sample Lab" instead. They could have made a stand alone sample instrument with the sample engines from CMI-V, Emulator II-V, Synclavier-V, and Pigments, with the analog filters from polybrute, and the digital filter models Arturia already has

Then have it come with the factory sample libraries from each, as well as all the Augmented libraries and an auto sampler program that makes presets from any VST

Now THIS would be something I would actually be interested in.

I think this is just not for the KVR crowd, myself included but I doubt it’s a fail.

The small screen does seem like a miss, but we’ve all seen smaller screens on synths before so it’s mot unusable for performance.

It’s a gigging keyboard. The onboard sounds are quality with a vocoder.

Again not for me or probably anyone here but this should have its market.

The things that surprised me is the lack of mention about the keybed and no midi 2.0.

It does sit in the pro musician slot with its price tag, so forward compatibility would be an interest for a potential buyer.
