After seeing this plugin, do you still want the free DAW?

It's one of those peculiar occasions where, when someone adds something to an environment, the environment is going to shrink.
I don't think you have anything to be concerned about with Behringer. Well at least at this point..

Side by side...I dunno why so many knickers are being twisted here. It's pretty different in an awful lot of ways.
I can see 2 obvious similarities: the dark strips under the knobs, and the knob surrounds. I'd be amazed if those knob surrounds haven't got something very similar on many other plugins though...
I personally don't even like the Tone 2 GUIs. I don't think any of them look that great. That said, to me, I have to be honest and say that the Behringer one definitely looks derivative of the Tone 2 GUI. If Tone 2 were to offer a little brother of the Taurus, I can completely imagine it looking exactly like the Behringer GUi.

Gotta hope we don't see the wood edges replaced with fur.

VitaminD wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2024 5:23 pm The Blue 'lcd' screen design, wood trim, and the soft gradient buttons and knobs are extremely similar. Let's not gloss over facts. And the fact that several here thought it was a Tone2 derived plugin proves there are similarities to their style of products.

It doesn't have to be a 1:1 copy to be like something.

Not that it really matters for us endusers. But maybe it should for Tone2 because this Behringer synth is pretty lackluster and yet looks like it could have been designed (graphically) by Tone2. So I could see why they might be upset a bit.. that doesn't help Tone2 brand imaging to the public.
This is better said than what I was trying to say.

To me, the issue is this is more of Behringer doing what Behringer does. It's not that any one particular part of this synth is derivative. It's that EVERY part of it is derivative.

This plugin tells me the quality of the rest of the Behringer software lineup should be. It is a sample to the future and that's kind of disappointing.
They can only get better....maybe not the best start, but I'll certainly keep an eye on what they have to offer in the future.
How original

I feel like that's one of their marketing techniques. They know people will talk about them if they do something that's probably technically legal but also obviously scummy. Some people will be turned off, many people won't care, and some people will actively support them because they identify with "sticking it to the man" with or without recognizing the inherent irony in that (like the MAGA hat folks).

I said a few years ago, I don't want to use a Behringer product even if they were giving them away for free. Now at last, I have proof!
I personally think that the only people that currently like Behringer are those who haven't witnessed the company's past. Either that or they like cheap prices so much that they'd sell their grandmother if the price was right....

Seriously though. I have a very low opinion of Uli Behringer and his company. Uli is a vindictive, low-brow @SS:

I agree. This is just another case of Behringer being Behringer. Well said! :)

It's like the 3 blind men and the elephant.
One says, "it's a Tone2 Saurus copy!"
Another says, "it's an Ableton Analog copy!"
The third says, "it's an AAS Ultra Analog copy!"

But they're all right, and wrong at the same time.
Because really, it's just another Behringer.
