Dunno.
Thing is, to actually claim royalties from you, the author had to make sure it was his/her very samples that you used. Quite a difficult thing.
Then, in case you only used them for non-commercial work, there'd not be much sense in claiming royalty fees.
And then, in case you'd actually make some money from, say, a release that you used those samples on in a prominent way, wouldn't it just be nice of you to pay a little for something that you got for free in the first place? I mean, we're not talking billions of bucks here...
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Thanks for all the thanks, you are all welcome.

Cheers for the comments SampleScience, glad you liked them.

VitaminD, yes, the samples are royalty free, so anyone can use them in their songs, music or whatever they want, I should maybe add that to the website.

But Sascha pointed out
There's no such thing as "copyright free" samples. The copyright allways belongs to the author.
so I wouldn't want them redistributed on a commercial sample CD. But I guess if I couldn't sell them no-one else will manage it!

Sasha is correct, except (1) in the US and some countries (but I think not EU) the author can assign copyright to another. (In EU, they can only issue an exclusive license -- if there's a difference!)

Also, I believe it is possible for the owner of copyrighted material to place it in the public domain.

Regardless, "copyrighted" isn't the issue. The issue is whether it's royalty-free, and for what purposes. E.g.,

A) Can I use it (of course, or why post!)
B) Can I record and publish music using it?
C) Can I redistribute it for free? With modifications?
D) Can I redistribute it for a fee? With modifications?

These are questions for the author. For example, for my soundfonts, you're free to do A and B. For C or D, please ask me and I'm sure we can work something out.

Not sure if these questions were for me but the answers are the same as learjeff's
