If you mean for Destructor, you can do whatever you want with it (there is a wide array of controls), and there are plenty of factory presets to get started with. For tape you can indeed have some extra compression-feel with the transfer curve going down when hit hard.Uncle E wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2024 4:07 pm Wow! How does the dynamic aspect relate to hardware? Does tape change shape based on how hard it’s hit?
Is it just me, but do most "wow complex" distortions just sound garbage?

ToneProjects Kelvin and Voxengo Powershaper to me sound the most organic.chk071 wrote: Fri Mar 29, 2024 6:44 pm
TBH, I also find a lot of software distortions to be bland and lifeless sounding (including Trash).
What do you think about NI Dirt?
Saturn i usually use when i want some more creative destruction.
- these three i use by far the most.
Softube MAS Overstayer and Harmonics can be very nice as well, and Voxengo free TubeAmp.
Honorable mention Fuse VPRE-2C, although i don't use it much anymore.

So is this possible with regards to Destructor? I mean how to make the transfer curve go down when the signal goes up or is this done automatically? Sorry, I've forgotten a lot about the destructor.Blue Cat Audio wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 7:31 am If you mean for Destructor, you can do whatever you want with it (there is a wide array of controls), and there are plenty of factory presets to get started with. The last time I tried it, I liked the shapes and sound of it but I was VERY skeptical about your product because whenever I enable oversampling in it - it still says 0 (zero) latency which seems impossible in the law of physics.
So I thought it must be a bug. I asked here about it but you probably skipped or missed my question so I lost my interest.
But I always monitor your threads because I love your plugin and where they aim. I think you have a good portfolio - It must be very demanding to maintain and innovate all of that so I salute you.

Yes definitely. The gif shown above is Destructor's transfer curve moving down when hit (you can also reverse the behavior and do pretty much whatever you want). That's a great way to mimic guitar amps' edge of breakup behavior or build overdriving compressors, crazy gates etc.kmonkey wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 9:13 am So is this possible with regards to Destructor? I think I remember a couple of discussions about this, indeed, sorry if I missed your particular question. Oversampling is done here by integer factors (2x, 4x), with non linear phase antialiasing filters (it's made to destroy the sound anyway, isn't it?). So there is technically no extra "latency", but frequency-dependent phase shift (like an EQ, but a bit more drastic).kmonkey wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 9:13 am The last time I tried it, I liked the shapes and sound of it but I was VERY skeptical about your product because whenever I enable oversampling in it - it still says 0 (zero) latency which seems impossible in the law of physics. Thank you! Quite a bit of work to keep all of them up to date indeed, but it's so much fun! Been doing this for more than 20 years, and I still like it!But I always monitor your threads because I love your plugin and where they aim.
