This is amateur stuff.
could be the presets , if i was ever making a synth i would at least get 100 presets commissioned by the best to show it off
Yeah but it's Behringer so, you know...half-assing it is the name of the game :D . It sounds outdated and misses the mark completely. Combine that with them straight up stealing the layout and functionality of this thing from Ableton's Analog (yeah yeah, it's AAS) and using Tone2's trade dress for this one...just YUK.

True. You almost have to make a deliberate effort to make a synth sound so bad these days (judging by what I heard in the demo videos). I'm by no means an expert in audio DSP / audio programming, but I know that many of the building blocks that make a good sounding synth are freely available as open source or free to use DSP code today on platforms like GitHub and inside audio development frameworks like JUCE. So the code for good sounding oscillators, analog-like filters and other components is already out there and just has to assembled into a useful configuration and UI. I guess that a seasoned audio programmer can built a better sounding synth without too much effort.

What's Yuk is making the hilarious claim that anyone stole Tone2's trade dress. Tone2 has no trade dress as everything used by then is a derivative of other synth products which was a deliberate choice by then

Does Tone2 own fake wood grain or fake knobs or fake blue LCD screens of course not. Plugins are not made from wood, don't have the ability to have actual knobs and don't have actual LCD screens aside from your computers monitor

The plugin is a polyphonic 2 osc subtractive synth with envelopes a filter and LFOs

Pretty sure there are hundreds of plugins with that same feature all of them copying the functionality of the Prophet 5 which came out in 1977

The Prophet 5 also had wood grain and knobs that Tone2 CLEARLY stole for their plugins Yuk

It's amazing anyone with a functioning brain would make that leap

Ok Ivybirds, I will engage with your bait:

Behringer also obvioulsy stole the LAYOUT and FUNCTIONALITY from Ableton's Analog. It's a 1:1 copy of that specific Live device.

Try and find excuses for that please. This time make it a dotted list, while you're at it.

Yes, there's nothing wrong by being "inspired" by classic or even iconic concepts ("this is a Minimoog-style synthesizer"), but that isn't the only thing that's going on here. The usage of someone else's design language is unmistakable, which is based on years of design work. That's low.

The bigger fail is elsewhere though. Ableton Analog has a specific form factor because of how it's integrated in the DAW. The layout is a compromise, such that it's weirdly far away from classic synthesizer layouts. They probably did the best they could. But it's absolutely awkward to take that layout and stuff it in a plug-in that is not constrained by the same factors. It's a bit like the people who made that decision have no idea about synthesisers.

This.

As has been stated elsewhere, it's like they wanted to make the 'borrowing' obvious as a provocation, because that's who they are.

(it's not officially licensed from anyone, right?)
I lost my heart in Cap de Creus

You mean it wasn't from Tone2? I thought it was a blatant copy from Tone2? I mean it has wood grain and knobs after all just like the Prophet 5 did in 1977

What's Amazing is, this is a free plugin from Behringer. Yet Behringer is getting all kinds of free publicity all over the web

You can't buy the amount of marketing Behringer is getting for free over this, it's so online for them

I think they absolutely did know. This was always going to be a free product. Behringer has been talking about doing something like this for years. Free plugins and a free DAW. This product which they now say was "accidently leaked" was not designed to be the best plugin on the market, it was designed for one thing and one thing only and that was to hype Behringer and for that they have been super successful

I was actually able to download and install it before they pulled the plug on it

I already have a collection of world class vintage synth inspired plugins made by great developers. For example I own everything you make

What I don't have is a crappy sounding early 2000s sounding plugin that runs on a modern 64bit OS. I do now and that is useful to me

Can’t wait for Behringer upcoming DAW with publicity and comments it will get

Sorry if it's been already discussed: people elsewhere are pointing out that the typeset for the VINTAGE logo is the same as the one on this old VST.

https://www.tubeohm.com/vst-vintage.html

I honestly think the similarities with Saurus are a bit of a stretch, but we're sure getting too many design coincidences here.

That's a fact nobody here knows yet. Given the similarities, it's possible.

(I'm talking about the layout/feature set, NOT the graphics)

Time will tell...
How original

It's getting to the point of ridiculousness.

Notice how that plugin has white keys and black keys just like on the Behringer

Clearly Behringer stole trade dress from Roland opps I mean Arturia

Post

I'll sue them: they've stolen the design of the keys from my piano! Scandal!!
