I mean, I would guess that Diva or Zebra are some of the best selling synths...would you say their users are buffoons and sheep?
Nah, because those are quality products.

Although, I did see this guy the other day on youtube operating Diva. He seemed like an absolute buffoon, so who knows

Nah, because those are quality products.
Then your argument is flawed

Sometimes things are very popular because they are good.
Exactly. I said just that, but from the other end so sometimes things are not the best just because they are popular. I never said that this is always the case.

Behringer is best selling (if it is at all, i have not seen sales data), because it’s much cheaper than the competition. This could be the case.

As far as I am concerned, cheap meat has juice. But this is subjective and not always the case.

I still stand my point. You made a statement that Behringer is the best selling synthesiser company ever. This doesn’t mean it produces the best synthesisers ever. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t either. It means your point is unnecessarily in the context of this thread IMHO. But I could argue in an empty room, so better go and munch on my roastchicken instead

But they are. What better way to judge what is best than by what people are buying?

Everything else comes down to personal taste which is not quantifiable

Every synth company exists to make money and sell stuff, they company that does that better than anyone else is the best by definition

You want to know how it sounds? You came to the wrong forum for that. There is more arguing about knob and font style that need to take place.

It sounds like it's generating a lot of controversy.

Urs wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:53 pm Yes, there's nothing wrong by being "inspired" by classic or even iconic concepts ("this is a Minimoog-style synthesizer"), but that isn't the only thing that's going on here. The usage of someone else's design language is unmistakable, which is based on years of design work. That's low.

The bigger fail is elsewhere though. Ableton Analog has a specific form factor because of how it's integrated in the DAW. The layout is a compromise, such that it's weirdly far away from classic synthesizer layouts. They probably did the best they could. But it's absolutely awkward to take that layout and stuff it in a plug-in that is not constrained by the same factors. It's a bit like the people who made that decision have no idea about synthesisers.

when you copy other old analog synths and make the layout of your plugin a little reminiscent that’s also stealing too ( but not really is it )
and who cares people would rather an original synth juno than a uhe plugin wouldn’t they ? of course but they can’t afford it so they get a little plugin with a somewhat similar sound.

also many songs steal the building blocks from other songs oasis have done this ( who cares ?)

i would never in a million years think
those plug ins look the same( tone 2 and vintage) if you stuck them side by side , in fact a lot of plugins sound the same , it’s just the filters and stuff that make them better or worse , how can you copy a filter without paying roland ?
i don’t know how it works but what’s good for
your soul man !

behringer are the aldi or lidl of the music world
but it’s not originals there making or
copys it’s cheap versions of with different packaging with similarities ( ie so you know its a cheaper alternative )

but let’s face it some things like aldis professor peppy ( knock off of dr pepper taste like arse )
so what’s my point ? ok the arturia key step for
example is going to be better than the swing 100% better software and if i had the money i’d buy that one , but the swing is a much cheaper alternitive currently £56 on thomann( you can find the key step £85 there but it’s a different edition the main black one is around £100-£110) , anyway so why does it matter if people want a cheaper Lidl alternative ? everywhere in shops people are trying to be a little like the other product but there not identical copy knock offs trying to pretend there originals , originality is near on impossible
these days anyway .

Ps: Studio one ripped off cubase
and Bitwig Ripped off ableton
you can read about this anywhere the workers from
each worked on the new software , so some of the code could be similar

people just get on with your lives this won’t affect ableton one bit or tone2 ✌️❤️
