Ok, maybe not Feng Shui. But:

I'm sure many would agree that a proper "space" is necessary (or at least helps) in aiding in inspired and productive sessions.

So, figuring we got a new year coming up, why not try something different. Moved all of my music equipment to another room. The pluses:

- No longer have my internet computer next to my music computer. No more distractions.
- Away from TV + TiVO
- Better acoustics
- Just better overall space. I can now stretch out on the floor or my bed, relax, and really listen to a mix.

Figured if it sux after a month and I don't like it, can move it all back (took about 2 hours).

Anyone else try this? Or maybe inspired to try it? Discuss... :)

my studio computer and internet computer are one in the same. I couldn't have it any other way. I got bored during playbacks and processing and need the internet to keep me occupied.

as for the telly, we only have one and its on the other side of the house, so that's not of concern. though I often wish to have one in here for sampling purposes.

I've nothing to contribute, I just wanted to say that it strikes me as very suspicious that a company named Random House would dare to publish books on Feng Shui...

Exactly.

I couldn´t finish my mixes without first burning incence in front of my computer. I have positioned it so that qi-energy can flow freely in my studio. Especially this is important with mastering compression. Seems to be so that qi-energys free flow adds punch to my mixes quite a bit.

OzoneJunkie, the stretching out on the floor part sounds good, if you can get decent acoustics that way. :-)

Mock if you must  - but I NEED to have a bit of a meditational feedback loop going when writing. It just suits the type of music I'm striving to create :)

Well. If meditating helps you with music, then do it. My opinion is that meditation is something that happens inside ones mind. Qi energies, yin and yang etc. are just ancient ways to explain physics, chemistry and so on. And I think ancient chinese didnt get it right.
I do some kind of meditation myself. I just call it self suggestion. Some kind of re-programming of mind. It works somehow but doesnt do any miracles. I also do some yoga asanas now and then, I believe its good for mind and body, but I dont believe in to chakras or prana. Well, prana is probably old indian explanation for oxygen. Yogis must have wondered why human being needs breathe to survive.

Back into first post. I think I should remove my internet pc from my "studio" (my wife calls it playroom). Too often I just browse net or play some game.

I can't resist finishing half-thoughts:

... then you can rest assured there will be a cable network ready and willing to video-tape it and turn it into a "reality TV" series! ;-)

It does help. Goes something like:

- Start meditating. Clear my mind, etc.
- Then, during meditation, let my mind go (hopefully not in the literal sense). As opposed to my mind's eye imagining, I try to let my mind's ear create.
- Go to computer, hopefully get a few notes recorded.
- Now, sit back again, meditate, but with those notes going. Let my mind create some more.

Hence my words meditation feedback loop.

Hopefully this doesn't come off as cocky. It's just what works, to some degree, for me. One of my major problems is, during that "sit back and meditate again" phase, I all too often will say "ok, lemme just see who's responded to my "Studio Feng Shui" thread"... and another hour goes by on KVR or Dogs On Acid
 :x

heheh, well, ok, that didn't last long. Moved everything back to the original room. Definately was not feeling the other room... lotta work just to learn that though... :x
