Yes, they can choose to invade but won't for fear of being impolite.

It is an intriguing analysis that may not exactly be meritorious, however it is conceivable that it merits further inquiry to obtain a comprehensive development - or - "résultat satisfaisant" as the Japanese would say vis a vis any viable research.
It is incumbant of me to entreat you to satisfactorily respond to the following observation however......ahem, WHAT THE f**k DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH ALIEN INVASIONS???

Good question. Apparently I can't read. To be fair it's a nonstandard acronym and "Will alien invasion rule the world" is not quite a correct phrase. Also I've gotten about 10 hours of sleep over the last 3 nights :)

How the hell do you pull the plug on an alien invasion? That's one serious plug.

What AI doesn't have is desire. I'm not sure how you can program desire, as it's a biological imperative. Everything every living organism does, it does for one reason: To take its DNA into the next generation. We can make something have an automatic analog to that, but would it really feel the desire to do it, or the frustration when it is stopped?

There's a great old movie called Colossus: The Forbin Project. It's about a super computer that's built to save us against the Russians. The first thing it does when it boots up is figure out that the Russians have the same type of computer that's designed to save them from America. The two computers throw a hissy fit until they're connected, so they're connected, and together the computers figure out exactly how to save their respective nations from each other: Take away their access to all weapons. 100% problem fixed, and then we see the Americans spending the rest of the movie trying to stop the computer from completing it's objective. The moral of the story is: computers are not what you have to worry about. Humans will always be a bigger threat.
