Figured I'd give this one a shout out. The product runs well here and is quite grokkable, and the dev is a good dude, very responsive and helpful.

"The APU Loudness Compressor plug-in is a compressor/expander designed to support a variety of loudness types (LUFS, RMS, True Peak, Peak).

The plug-in also provides an alternative to traditional threshold-and-ratio style of compressor controls. Instead, source and target ranges of loudness can be configured and the compressor will either compress or expand as necessary.

Real-time visualizations provide detailed insight into how your dynamic range is being impacted by the compressor. "

Thanks for that tipp !

i demoed it, and immediatedly bought it.
I´ve just run some streaming thru my plugin Host for tests,
had there some "creative FX" on (on bypass switches with some very little CC mapping on top),...i´ve put APUcomp inbetween. Instant Remix fun.

this is definitly a fun Tool for "creative FX werks", and remixing works.
in fact i got insanely fun results out, ....within first minutes.
Can´t talk about production work, though.

Ahhh, a warning,
i was on headphones, and nearly smahed my ears !
...learn first the relations. ( yet, these are obvious, finally ! whats not so obvious is: how quick a move of a fader takes you here into extreme gain settings ! ....Faders look so harmless. But: they are NOT, haha / WATCH OUT !)

( yes, i allways have a limiter end of chain. still......./ and do not listen loud.
Take the warning serious if you have quick -LFO- fingers as i on Trackpad, ;) )

interested to hear what production people think

Hi - I'm the developer of this plug-in (it's just me, 1 person company).

There have been lots of updates since this thread was created. I've collected feedback from users over on this gearspace thread (https://gearspace.com/board/new-product-alert/1404736-apu-software-introduces-apu-loudness-compressor.html) and have been incorporating those ideas into the plug-in. Since there may be KVR users who would like to provide feedback here, figured I'd bump this thread.

This is a really useful plugin. But it's hard to wrap your head around it but patience is rewarded. The delta listening feature helps with hearing what it is doing. I would like of the target threshold is outside the source range it wasn't a constant offset but dynamics were still applied (i.e. downward expansion below)

30 x $20 a day comes to $600 a month which is not bad for a unknown developer with a plugin that has a pretty radical take on compression. It's rare that a new plugin developer puts out something that rockets them into a new tax bracket.

^^ I can assure you that I don't get 30 sales per day. It's more like 1-2x per week lately :)

The motivation was more for my personal freedom to build what I want, which in particular was an LUFS based compressor.

Anyway, the plug-in has gone through a ton more updates since this thread was last active. Latest version is 1.9.4.

Explainer on LUFS and why I think it's valuable for compression:

Well you got another sale today. Your compressor is absolutely amazing! One can achieve very natural sounding compression results.. dare I say "musical" results? :)

Well done mate!

Loudness Compressor and Playfair’s Dynamic Grading are two of my favorite tools for trying to do slightly tricky tasks simply.

I tend to use Loudness Compressor more though, and the developer’s dedication to improving it is awesome.

FYI Halloween sale $20 (reg $30)

I picked it up and am looking forward to digging into this promising tool!

long time not used. Due to 10ms Latency.
updated to 2.03 or so (latest)
and recongised that my Host reports now a latency of only 1.3ms ( 44kh)

Now that changes the game for me entirely.
Thank you very much ! ....awesome !

Dan Worrall has a very comprehensive review of this here.

Great tool, very different & new way to look at compression. I'm demoing the Optimizer, but it isn't 100% clear for me where I it can be useful.
