Hi,

I'm looking for alternatives to the Hornet LU Meter. It is a very useful plugin generally, but there is one very annoying thing about it. If you hit the auto button and start playback the volume is boosted to "braindamage" levels for a split second too often. Is there a plugin out there with a similar feature set but better autogain behaviour?
In other words, I'm looking for a simple plugin where I can set a target LU level and the plugin automatically adjusts gain to reach that level.

Hi,

I use TbProAudio free dpMeter and mvMeter in same way as Hornet LU Meter: https://www.tbproaudio.de/products/
Do not have an auto gain adjustment on playback, but have a Gain Match option to adjust level to set reference level.
So may be an alternative.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've checked them both and mvMeter does pretty much everything I want. The GainMatch works really smoothly, no loud peaks.
For some reason the EBU reference level doesn't seem correct, it's 3db to loud. It's not a big deal though because I can just set it 3db lower.

GoodHertz Loudness is another good option, although it looks like you already found what you need. Loudness is very good though and free

Thanks guys, I'll check those.

I also found Hornet's VU Meter (another Hornet auto gain plugin) did not null to a duplicate track with manual gain adjustment, mvMeter did null.

I've tried both and they're both really good. I'll go with the Goodhertz plugin for now because I prefer the overall appearance/layout, but if it didn't exist I'd definitely use the Melda plugin. Both also use only ~1/4 of the cpu the Hornet LU meter uses, which actually matters quite a bit if you use it on 50+ tracks.

Thanks again for suggesting it!

Another feature of MLoudnessAnalyzer is batch auto gain, this could be applied to a folder of various audio files and level them all to the same target LUFS.
