its nerealy perfect in my humble opinion. All i wish is that it had a freeze vsti option like in cubase sx....and then it would be perfect.

i do not agree, i use live 4 as a sequencer but i'd like to learn nuendo and leave live 4 away.
The vst implementation sucks, many vsts don't work i.e. absynth, reaktor 4 etc.
Anyway it's user-friendly,that's what makes live 4 a good product, but it's not as professional as nuendo or cubase, i'm having problems with effects volume and other parameters values, cause if i want to increase values manually dragging the red line i cannot choose a specific value,i mean,it goes from 1.72 to 2.98 for example.
Sorry for my bad english

Cubase sx is a nice host. It can do anything you want, i used it for almost 4-5 months but hte bottom line (imo) is that i just wasnt having fun makin music in SX. Im not sure why, but when i tried to make something in SX it felt like acutal labor and that takes away any inspiration you have. But live4 is suttin totally different and simply fun and original. Ive had no problems with vsti's in live except for this little pro-53 problem i have its just as good as cubase sx ont he technical side

also annoying is the lack of support for a second or third mouse button.
navigating in nuendo is so much more convenient for people with more than 1 finger on their hand.

other things it needs include delay compensation, drag&drop support for external files. import/export of mp3 files.
better/useable midi, rex support, destructive effects, freeze...

I don't agree with any of that. I mean.. I can hold down ctrl and get specific value increments.

I have tried live but couldnt get around a few basic things.

Could anyone fill me out on how NOT to have all the clips start at once when I hit the record button ?

What I mean is that I would like some loops to start after a few bars only.

I could sequence this in the arranger but I dont know if this is the best way if I still need to record some clips.

I absolutely love Live 4. It's got the things I was looking for in it. Playability. That's what it is for. It's stable on my system and really puts the fun back in creating for me. Pretty intuitive, good workflow, etc. Lacks a few things, but I can do those with some of the other programs if I really need to. Handles my vst's good too. Not Reaktor or Absynth, but so what, there are a ton of others that work great in it. 8)

Acolmiztli, thanks for your help about the values, i read the manual but i couldn't find that CTRL function.
Thanks dude

Wrong, wrong, wrong.....

A well-matured Cheddar cheese melted over Branston Pickle is the best thing after sliced bread.

Everyone knows that :P

whats the problem with Live 4 and absynth, there are alot of people on the ableton forum who use the combo and love it?

Post

For some reason absynth will pop up, but the audio is just a click, in any configuration, and on any preset. maybe just my system has problems with it, I don't know, but reaktor won't make any noise at all. So far about 15 other softsynths do work on it for me, so I couldn't care about losing absynth. It always crashed my FL Studio too when trying to open a project with an absynth channel in it. I use Kingston RAM (1 gig), but only have a 2000XP processor. maybe that's why. Not a big deal to me. If it weren't for those programs not handling those VSTi's well (Sonar handles them fine), I really wouldn't have explored some outstanding other VSTi's that are available. many of these being freebies, that I never knew existed.

Live I have to say is pretty damn good! I wont say its The most professinal but like has been said it is very fun, and therfore helps me be very productive!

import/export of mp3 files.

Your kidding me right? Who uses lossfull mp3? And just convert your song to mp3 after the fact? no?

The rest are kinda... good arguments although there are plenty of workarounds for most complaints here...

Also Reaktor works fine for me... mabye its time not to use WAREZ.... :hihi:

i heavily use mp3 export with other apps to bounce raw mixes and musical ideas in organized folders so that i find stuff again after i abandon it.
i also like take this mp3 files and quickly arrange/layer them, to experiment with takes from different sessions.
quality doesn't matter for that, as i will easily find the original project files again, with the given mp3 filename.

Fair enough...

I have made it a point to persoanlly deal with nothing but wav, but I defintly dont "bounce" ideas around like that..

So I guess that sucks then eh? I guess for now if you use LIVE make sure you got plenty of hard disk space!
