Did you buy cubase sx and then found out that your computer can't handle it?

sx itself does not use a lot of cpu, the effects and synths do however.

me myself would never pay like 750usd for something to just discover I want something else.

Any host is suitable for trance music, but check out:
Podium
Fruity Loops Studio (lots of trancepeople seem to use it for some reason)
Tracktion (now for free)
Orion (has a small (bones) but very dedicated (bones) user base (bones))
etc, plenty of good stuff around that should do the trick for you.

i personally use live4 and it usees very little cpu.

I have a medium powered PC and an ok soundcard...i get about 20% cpu usage with like 3 pro-53's, Reason, and 2-3 impOSCars goin at the same time.

You don't have enough RAM. Your CPU is kind of slow, but it should work ok if you limit your VSTi tracks.

There is a language barrier here. I have no idea whether you're saying Cubase works fine but you find it too complicated, or whether you're saying Cubase does not work for you.

EnergyXT is cheap and solved all my problems. Not as pretty or as easy to get started using, but it's cheap and it works very well without being a resource hog.

Another vote for FruityLoops Studio for your type of music.
A lot of people find Cubase too work intensive, myself included.
Creating music should be fun and your host of choice shouldn't get in the way.
Good Luck

Are you using ASIO drivers for the Live card?

I.e. ASIO4ALL or the kx project drivers

What Fishbowl said. 256MB RAM is way too small. From memory I think Steinberg recommend a minimum of 512MB. At 256MB, you're even going to be limited how many audio channels you can use, and you'll very quickly run out of instruments and FX, Eq etc.

My old system was a 1.1GHz Athlon on 512MB RAM. The processor got by well enough, but on 512MB RAM I had to render alot of stuff to audio. Now I'm on a 2.5GHz with 1GB RAM. The CPU is nice etc, but the increased RAM made a huge difference. Your CPU should be perfectly OK to run any host, but you need to get more RAM stuffed in there. I'd say 500MB is a minimum, preferably 1GB...some here use 2GB...which would be useful, but not essential.

No need to sell Cubase back - more RAM will be cheaper than most good hosts and will make a mammoth difference to what you can do. It is NOT your host that is the problem...it's your system. A good audio PC needs to be well specified. A quick CPU is useful, but not the most important - lots of RAM is a must - a quick access, fast hard drive is also an absolute MUST-HAVE (should be <10mSec access time and preferable 7200rpm or above).

RAM + hard drive. Get those two sorted and everything else will most likely work well.(hopefully) :hihi:

Why would you think for a minute that you could run $750 worth of software on a PC that wouldn't be worth half that? If Cubase can't hack it there is no way that Nuendo will. Go and buy a new PC and then get some freeware like Traktion and a bunch of free VST/VSTi plugins. Your money will be much better spent and you might actually be able to make some music.
