VPS Avenger 2 expansion preset philosophy

Avenger 2 is a jack of all trades, and a pretty good one.
But the way they approach their preset design in their new expansions is contradictive to what a synth really is.
In their latest expansion "Atmospherica 2" 70% of all the presets has one or more chords already build in and often via samples that cannot be changed. So you are stuck with the minor or major chord baked in the preset.
This means playing the presets doesn't happen. you need one finger most of the time.
So fitting those presets in your music isn't really happening either unless you need a singel chord atmopshere or so.
I think tis is a shame, and won't be buying more expansions.

Yeah Atmos 2 is mostly unuseable to any self-respecting composer/producer, but from what the devs say it does pretty well sales-wise as its used for background tv/film stuff.

Surprised it is popular in background tv and film music, which is part of the area I work in.
I think if my clients found out I used one note wonder presets the calls to use me would decrease exponentially.

We need have to more ways to manipulate the VPS layers, first would be less pre-produced samples and more synths/wavetables in the presets and the second would be more ways for midi out (channels or even ports) to treat the layers independently when the serious arrangement project start (so I don't talk about a one-finger-dancehall what we have so far with many of the presets, I talk about really making individual music for any kind of genres, and Avenger could be really first choice for that).
For my own work I'm at the moment most satisfied with John Lehmkuhl's Unify. It's great with it's layer freedom and tons of possibilities... and I'm sure that Unify Pro, - released later this year - will get even better, with advanced midi edit & multi audio out options.
