Well, they're hardware and they control instruments and this seems the best place on KVR to post...

Roland's current low-end Hi-Hat controller pedal is the FD8. I've read this is compatible with my TrapKAT 4. I'd given up on the AlternateMode Hat pedals (they'd become increasingly unreliable - presumably due to age) and switched to a cheap Bespeco VM12 Volume Pedal, which did the job (single mono connector mode into the "Out" socket). (I've upgraded this because the plastic started, um, bending... I've now got a rather fancy Ernie Ball... but it's still a volume pedal with forward fulcrum not a hi-hat with spring and heel-end fulcrum.)

However, as said, AM do mention that the FD8 should work. Roland supplies a stereo cable, though... Anyone know how the electrics differ between this and the VM12? Will a mono cable work just like the "Out" socket on the VM12 (the "In" does nothing on the VM12, as expected given the circuit diagram).

Also, eBay has FD6 and FD7 pedals for about half the price of a new FD8 (and a fair bit cheaper than a second hand FD8) - so I was thinking of trying one of them. I'd assume these both work the same?
