PreSonus likes partnering with other developers to develop open specs. It’s kind of their thing.

They also developed ARA with Celemony. And they developed the PreSonus Audioloop File Format. And the founder and lead developer of PreSonus Software who is now a VP at PreSonus developed the VST3 spec when he was at Steinberg.

So I wouldn’t read anything into PreSonus partnering with Bitwig on an inter-DAW transfer format to mean that Studio One is going to support all of Bitwig’s niche features.

But, yes it’s true the Show page essentially has a clip launching feature already. I just think that is where such a thing belongs, workflow-wise, and that is where it will stay. I just don’t think clip launching will be coming to the Song page, because it is 100% designed for linear tracking of songs of determinate length. Clip launching is counter to Studio One’s guiding philosophy for song making.

But, we could perhaps see a looper guitar pedal plugin added to Studio One at some point. Maybe it would be free, or maybe a paid add-on… or maybe, as a Studio One+ subscription exclusive.

While I agree. I thought the same about ProTools and that got a clip launcher (for some reason). Presonus does like to keep an eye on what Protools is doing so they may add a clip launcher if for no other reason than ProTools has it.

That being said I don’t think they need to add that, especially without robust hardware support. IMO clip launching doesn’t work well unless you have hardware to launch and record clips. Otherwise it’s just a dumping ground for clips and we already have Scratch pads in S1 for that.

The introduction of this new spec with these two specific partners says "clip launcher/live looping" (to me anyway) almost without question.

One look at the mechanics of the Show page in S1 v5/6 tells me that clip launching (done of course in the most elegant Presonus fashion) feels just like ATMOS did - simply hiding behind the surface getting ready to make it's debut next year.

I have seen dozens of posts from Show users who want a bit of TLC in this area so giving this tech what it needs (and bringing it to the Arrangement world) makes total sense to me.

And of all partners possible out there to partner up with - am I the only one who keeps wondering why Presonus AND BitWig?

Really it says start your song in one DAW for inspiration finish in a traditional DAW for mixing production/tracking etc. Bitwig and Presonus are the perfect partners if you think about it that way imo. I know I prefer tracking vocals and guitars in S1 over Bitwig. I definitley prefer mixing in S1 over Bitwig.

I started a song in Studio One and exported it to Bitwig. I then did some work in Bitwig and exported it back to Studio One using the Moss Project Converter. You can then click on scenes (they appear in the bar at the top) in Studio One to launch them.

I would totally agree - except the Scratch Pads simply do not allow me to loop in the correct length based on the size of another clip. If it did - we would already have a clip launcher.

Using Scratch pad is fine as log as you accept the fact that everything you want to loop stays in a nice tidy 8 or 16 bar block. But that is not how ProTools and Bitwig do it.

When I meant as a repository for clips I meant just that. I wouldn't actually play clips from the scratch pad directly. It's a place for me to put clips for easy access to drag and drop into the arranger. That's pretty much how I use Bitwig, and that's how I use Logic as well. Create something in the arranger, drag it into the clip launcher to store it. Drag them back when I'm arranging my track.

Interesting. I use Scratch Pad as a separate Arrange window with full on action. I record right into it etc. Event/clip storage of course but once I really started getting into it - couldn't really stop.

Has been a godsend to my boring ass "arrangement" window style songs where I was copying blocks upon blocks of events tried to inject some interest.

And when you take what Presonus has already accomplished with their Arranger track, the scratchpads and now possible potential for "real" clip launching/live looping - it would be the full package for those that like to write/work this way.

Ah, diabolical. Fingers crossed I'll be able to justify the upgrade to the next MPS version whenever that comes around

After a long hiatus I fired up Studio one , recorded some outboard gear ( tg77-,R8m,nord modular ) enabled console shaper .
Instantly reminded me why bought Studio on in the first place, it's a breeze to mix in and the console shaper is awesome .
