ZL Eq, a free Pro Q alternative ?

it just doesn’t work properly for me in Luna dunno whether that’s a luna problem but everytime i make a eq euros and start moving it around the graphics start messing around making it unusable atm wish there guy had support on here .

you could submit an issue on github if you want the dev to see it. (if you do, it might be helpful to include screen caps of what you mean, describe in a bit more detail how to reproduce the bug)

thanks for that i’m not very good with navigating github ( i always get confused where the downloads are so thanks ) it’s happens quite often so should be able to reproduce cheers pal ,

this is what i’m saying , but people still pay companies like uhe and serum loads of cash , there just not worth it when the freeware is so exceptional now ,( the only thing i would say is there’s more quality presets for good name synths which makes people think there better than free daws )

recently i see everyone slagging off behringers vintage but are some free synths that shit ? i mean if luftrum the unfinished stockhausen etc made the presets for them we could be having a different conversation now , some things are just brandism , like Youngsters won’t wear reebok but they love nike , my reebok last just as good feel just as good , but there not cool

someone could easily make pop hits with freeware or score a movie , we are even getting quality free Daws now like Luna .
apparently the new free plug in “spot on” is better than Autotune , name me something that’s paid you can’t get for free somehow with a few little tweaks , they should bring the software prices down and put more stuff.


and the only thing about this Zl eq it doesn’t have great looks like pro q just yet ( doesn’t look bad and people will still say it’s not the same , but like a cheap tin of beans once there on toast who gives a f**k if the label was or wasn’t heinz ?

i mean i think companies still need to get paid
but £200 for a virtual thing is a ridiculous price to pay i think , when you can replace most of it with freeware and make the same quality music .

Just tried it. It's not as intuitive to use as Pro-Q3 but the features are absolutely top shelf! Very nice dynamics section. Exceptionally flexible and very good sounding. This is probably the finest free Pro-Q like alternative out there.

Usability wise it's still got quite a bit of development to be done to be close to Pro-Q3 in operation. For instance, if you select multiple filters and then change gain, it is only added to the overall gain of the filters instead of relatively controlling each bands gain.. so you can't easily select 4 filter nodes and reduce or increase their gains proportionally.

Sound wise ZL Eq sounds "cleaner" than Pro-Q3 in my opinion. Noticeable when dragging a filter node around high frequency content. It's just less "grainy" sounding around the edges somehow. Probably the filter shape is a bit different compared to Pro-Q3.

Overall this is a real winner!

Thanks for the feedback. I tried that before but found it quite tricky to deal with some edge cases, e.g., gain close to zero. As a result, I use a constant overall gain instead which is much easier. If you have any ideas in the future, feel free to leave them on Github Discussion, which is a better place for tracking those FRs and bugs.

I have received a similar comment on YouTube (Windows, LUNA, GUI doesn't work) but the publisher deleted that comment immediately Since LUNA is still in Open Beta, I would recommend loading the plugin in a more stable DAW. Besides that, please also check the requirements:

On Windows, the plugin requires Direct2D support. The plugin is compatible with Windows 10 and later.

hiya that was actually me , i deleted it because it seemed to be working once or twice but 9/10 the curves disappear and i only see the bells , i’m sure it will work in other daws ( i have studio one artist but i have uninstalled it as im going to move too luna as it’s free and i really like the look and workflow , it seemed like a great eq the first couple of times i could use it lol , but yes thanks for this mate could be the beta , there was an update today and still the same i’ll wait i have slice eq for now cheers pal .

AFAIK Windows 11 comes with Direct2D (but I am not a Windows expert). Since you can see the GUI (with/without the curves), Direct2D is not an issue for your case. I would recommend playing the audio through the plugin (make sure the plugin is on) and checking whether the curves appear during the playback.

Totally agree,plus unforgettable ATTITUDE of developers,go and give another 500-600 eu/us for stuff you already have for free.
Especially Analog emu's are such trade phantasmagoria and money makers,i can't believe i actually believe in these blsht years ago.

I can make more convinsing analog-ish sound with free synths like Synth1 and Vital,than 90% of users,who prefer to pay for VIRTUAL ANALOG,BUT STILL DIGITAL synths like Diva,will ever get closer.
Checking the ZL EQ - top notch sound,flexible curves,rank it among best free ones,probably better than some paid i've got.

You might want to have a look at ReEQ, a JS plugin for Reaper. It has a scaling feature that works quite well. Being a JS plugin it is inherently open source. You could replicate the logic.

Essentially it sets a scale variable and modifies band gain according to the variable setting through a simple multiplication. I mean, what can go wrong?

like 179 dollars how do these companies sell these Eq?

i just use mostly eq for eq i wouldnt know how to use most of the other features , but i just don’t think i could ever pay 179 for an eq when my daw has an eq and theres so many great free eqs , besides the zl eq guy could probably create a free version of this in the future too .
if making plugins was my hobby and i could code , i would make free or very cheap plugins similar to all these over the top priced paid ones , im just not interested in coding , anyway back on track to the zl eq .
