So basically, I'd like to generate for both, then lock one down and regenerate the other to make them different. (Actually, I would do this for more than 2 tracks.)

Is this possible today? If so, how do I do that? If not, could this possibility be added?

So you'd like different random voicing for each chord in the tracks? That is not possible at the moment. The Chord Generator has no randomness, so it makes no sense to press 'G'.

By applying different transposition for the phrases, you will get different voicings:



It would be possible to add weights/probabilities for chord notes in different octaves in the Chord Generator. Or applying a random inversion on the chord notes, that would be the simplest. Would this sound good? Probably not. But if you use the 'lock', chord notes are arranged automatically to follow the previous phrase notes as smoothly as possible, so a random voicing does not have an effect anyway.

Hi Gene,

Yes, we have 'Override master track voicing', but that just uncouples from the voicing, not from the actual MT chords.

In this context, we would need another pop-up menu choice:
'Ignore master track chords'

I would put it at the top of the list, as it moots all the other items if set.

You postulate a 1-touch action all the way to the solution.

Not that I'd object, but I think that would be both complicated to implement and possibly hard to explain and easy to mis-undersand.

Instead, all we need is 'Ignore master track chords' as a possibility for each track. IOW, effectively lock the track out of chord re-generation.

I could then easily do as many 'generate - copy track - lock prior track' cycles as I want to manually build out the set of harmony tracks I want to export.

Excluding a track from chord regeneration should be a simple implementation - it's just an on/off switch - participate, or don't!

Goal: 1 output MIDI file with 16 verse variations

Non-Goal: 16 output MIDI files, created (and later used) one-at-a-time

It's a different-than-normal use of RC, but would be extremely powerful in workflow conjunction with other programs I use which can import the Goal file.

I had a feeling I misunderstood you, thanks for the clarification.
If you want to export tracks as a single MIDI file, why don't you convert the phrases to 'absolute' MIDI notes. Then they won't change if the master track chords change.

Going the other way too, I suppose, in order to most simply reuse every one of these templates that gets set up. (IOW, to generate a new MIDI file full of different chords. This will require un-absoluting all the phrases on a track when you want to give that track a new set of chords for a new output MIDI file.)

I notice that whenever I go to a track or phrase to inspect it, covert it, whatever, I lose my selection of chords in the Master Track.

Is there a quick way to get that back? Or would it be possible for it not to go away unless/until I explicitly dismiss or remake it?

RapidComposer v5.3b3 is available!

Some user-requested features have been implemented in this update.

Improvements:

• The keyboard shows the current track notes (also when not during playback)
• Track selection when dropping a single MIDI file on the phrase browser. Improved phrase naming: MIDI file name + track title.
• "Export chords as MIDI" menu item added in the file menu
• Fixed a crashing bug when closing RapidComposer with the keyboard layer open

I notice that whenever I go to a track or phrase to inspect it, covert it, whatever, I lose my selection of chords in the Master Track.

Clicking on another keyboard focus area does not deselect the master track chords. How can I reproduce this?

Very nice to have the last chord persist on the Keyboard when the transport is stopped.

Shouldn't I also see the chords going by on the Keyboard when the transport is rolling? (I do not)
