The current idea is a Behringer Go case with :
Image
Saving on the case to spend on the mixer. It would go over the Pro3 so I could use it's sequencer in addition to the Dnipro modular DOT & Musicthing Turing machine mk2. For drums I picked Bastl Crust + erica synths Drum2. hopefully sound good together
2603 mA +12V; 407 mA -12V with a max depth of 42mm.
I think this would get me all the functionality I need and still 5hp open

I may be wrong, but you dont seem to have a Pulses with the Turing Machine, just a Voltages? Wonder if you might find one useful as another trigger source alongside the DOT.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

You may want to check out the After Later Alan and its expanders - seem to offer the same functionality without needing anywhere like the case hp width.

The module to the right of turing is Voltages, I thought that was more useful than Pulses. Since I still have HP left, I might get both. I think they are sold as DIY and I might want to not get all three at once anyway.

The Alan I had was a little bit quirky. Maybe all of them are to some extent, it's analog circuits after all. But:

- the effective range of the Chance knob was about 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock. Beyond those ranges it was either "always flip" or "never flip." (Someone tested their MTM Turing mk2 and it was more like 9 to 3, still not the full knob range... YMMV)

- if monitoring the noise output, there was an audible "thunk" sound when flipping the Write switch.

- the noise level actually increased a little when the Length bit is high. That means with Chance < 50%, it's biased more toward flipping bits off than on, and the pattern can empty itself out over time. Closer to 50% the effect is diminished.

Oh sorry, wasn't aware they worked any differently from the original ones.
FWIW I don't use either, I use the Enigma applet in O_c or the virtual version of Turing Machine in VCV Rack and either bring the pitch through as CV to the rack via a Befaco MIDI Thing v2 or as MIDI via a Mutant Brain. I have all the virtual Turing Machine knobs mapped to faders on my AtoV Faderbank, works pretty well.
Just tonight I had four on the go and well I wouldn't want to be buying four Turing Machine modules.

Picked up a couple of things cheap used I’d wanted for a while.

i still want to upgrade to the rene 2.

got an email from stylophone, says 2-3 weeks for the theremin preorders to start!

want a chromaphone!!
Damn, Rene v2 has lots of options! :o

I know it’ll become easier once I’m more familiar, but I didn’t realize all the options on the function page. The Make Noise walkthroughs are a bit confusing with extra info squished in.

Somewhat inspired by Foosnark’s deep dives, I have a spread sheet documenting features, tips and button combos in the way I understand it best. Something I can come back to instead of searching for how-to-videos. I’ll need to get started on Rene too.

elxsound wrote: Thu May 02, 2024 12:45 am I wouldn't mind adding VCV and then selling off Hector. They added Midi Thing Bridge at the 10-minute mark, and it looks too easy (in a good way).
It’s a shame this can’t handle audio because otherwise it could be the perfect vcv to modular (and potentially back) solution.
How are you getting along with MIDI Thing?

Are you using it with Elektron gear? I read on the MW board that there was a fix that corrected some early clock issues with Elektron boxes.

How’s the pass through with VCV?

I’m torn about getting one because I still want Optx V2 when it’s released. MIDI Thing might be overkill at that point.

That one hurts a bit. I had to consider the possibility of a Rene 3, or an entirely new Make Noise sequencer but after watching lots of videos on different sequencers, I think this is enough (and actually more than enough). I figure anything else will be from the computer or Push 3.

Also, I saw this for Bitwig. I know that’s not your host but could be fun for those that have it.

BW is not what I use either and no plans to switch, but I got Rene 2 to make the rack more self contained for quickly patching/playing.

I switched from Rene v1 to V2 shortly after it was released and there were things I liked and other things I preferred about the original. The original was more immediate but of course much more limited. When it came to controlling a single voice, I preferred Rene v1 with a 4ms Rotating Clock Divider but when I combined Tempi with Rene v2 it was a whole different experience. It took a while to get the most from that combo but once I had the two talking via the Select Bus, it opened a whole lot of possibilities. At some point I was using Renev2 to change presets on Tempi and a Disting mk4.
Finally I got firmware from Make Noise which would allow Rene v2 and Tempi to respond to MIDI Program Change messages, with the addition of the Expert Sleeper's Select Bus breakout. With that setup, I was able to send program changes from my Octatrack to CVilization, Disting mk4, Rene v2 and Tempi, so that presets would change when I changed patterns. That was when I still had my Shared System.
Getting the most from Select Bus and the Tempi/Rene v2 combo was a challenge, as those two deal with Select Bus messages a bit differently than some other devices which use it. But once I got everything talking, it was a revelation.

Before I got my H9000, I sold my Pitch Factor and Space pedals. Makes sense, because I can run more than 8 instances of each in the H9000.
But since I've been playing live more, I went and got those pedals again, to use as send on my live mixer.
I considered getting an H90 and I likely will do that at some point but I always liked all the hands-on control of those Factor pedals.

I haven’t been using the saved states on Tempi but I do hope to start now with Rene v2. When I first read about it in the manual, I was super confused because I didn’t know that was possible without patching the two modules together via some cable and I didn’t see a place for a cable. :dog:

Their video explained that part nicely, but wow… didn’t know it was possible! I’ve moved around my whole rack to keep Tempi next to Rene. This should be fun (after the learning curve).
