swilow11 wrote: Thu Jun 13, 2024 12:55 pm Motions seems really nice, like a stripped down blend of Shaperbox and Infiltrator. The 2 new bus plugins sound interesting and I can imagine using them. I can also imagine using them 3 times and then never again. It seemed worth it for $69 but I own V Collection/FX 4/Pigments/Coldfire purchased separately and a bloody Microfreak and seeing people here who claim to own nothing getting this for $99, I'm now diving into cognitive-fallacy-land and feeling ripped off.

I do wonder how much use the general KVR person actually uses these plugins. Never really see them mentioned. Of the FX collection, I use the LX24 reverb, Coldfire, the Sitral EQ, sometimes the phaser and have barely looked at the rest. One of the compressors is nice, and Dist Tube is decent but there's like 25 other plugins here that are just gathering dust.
It depends what your goals are. I can't speak for others, but I only make music for my own personal enjoyment and I get as much enjoyment out of tinkering with plugins as I do making the music itself. When I start a new project my first question is, which plugin haven't I explored recently? I doubt serious producers could afford to waste time like that, but what percentage of Arturia's, or any developer's, customers are serious producers working to a deadline? I would think it's pretty low.

I have everything by Arturia, and got the €49 deal, which was £43 after conversion, so £21.50 each for the two new plugins seems a fair deal, if someone else gets a better deal, good luck to them!

This is the first Arturia release I can think of that came with absolute radio silence from their own channels, apart from a splash on their own webpage. Usually they blow up YouTube with a 30-second spot, tutorials, something from CatSynthTV, tutorial livestreams and everything else, along with ad spots here. If it weren't for this thread I wouldn't have even known about it. Weird.

Exactly the same in my account.

Apparently, they don't have faith in the product, don't think it will sell well, so not worth marketing expense. They know they came up with rather underwhelming shit this time around and marketing won't help matters much.

Next Arturia releases will be very telling. I hear a lot of folk refusing to upgrade their synth and fx collections, and some of them already skipped two full years. If Arturia keeps doing this underwhelming shit, this dynamic will intensify. Skinnier frog legs and lower euro bonuses for Xmas, in other words.

Nope, I think you must have misunderstood my post. I didn't say there's no upgrade for anyone.

There's most obviously an upgrade option from V4, but only a "crossgrade"-option of 99 for all owners of any other software-titles i.e. it doesn't matter whether someone owns V1 or V3 of the FX Collection or any version of the instrument-collection or anything else or any combination of any of these - it's always 99.

(And they did it like this for years, which is why (as I mentioned before) I own a multitude of redundant/unused Arturia licenses.)

Yes they want to encourage customers to stay on the every version upgrade cycle. If you miss one you're paying 99.

That said, if you miss one you might as well miss 3. Because you'll likely pay the same to upgrade if you ever decide that later.

Steinberg are similar in that manner -- big discount for single whole version up, less discount for every other version past you up.

I am off the upgrade train. Not sure exactly why I was on it for so long (probably unconsciously addicted).

Uhm, that's certainly one of those WTF??? moments...

I was specifically adressing those who were talking about a "99 upgrade".... and frankly put I think that should actually be obvious enough to anyone taking proper attention.

Maybe read the quote again which I answered to (and which you left out) with that bit of me you quoted above...?

I'll help you:

[guy #1] I'm in the $99 range, and for me that doesn't quite make sense, considering I have all the bases covered that are in the new offerings. They'll get me, eventually, but not this time. Same for the last V Collection.
[guy #2]This is where I’m at too. I’m on FX Collection 3 and I don’t see anything that makes me want to upgrade.

Someone on another forum mentioned they have the original FX collection and they have the same $99 upgrade price.

Again: there is NO upgrade for you guys[adressing guy #1 and guy #2] or me* - it's a whole new license for V5 and this offer seems to be available to all customers who own some piece of software from them.
I took the liberty of highlighting a few bits and adding some annotations to make it easier for you - if you still don't get it you either don't want to because you'd much rather eat your own testicles with a healthy dose of salt and pepper than admitting having been wrong or you are a lot dumber than I thought.

*why would I say "for you guys or me" when I meant everyone? I could just say "there is no upgrade" period, right? Right.

Why am I getting quoted on this nonsense twice.

No I didn’t pay attention to how their upgrades vs crossgrades work, which is exactly why I mentioned “upgrade.” If it were more important to me I would probably pay attention but it’s not important and definitely not worth getting dragged into someone wanting to prove they were right with certain exceptions.

Yeah, off the upgrade train and the crossgrade train too.

Sorry about that - the rabbit had some reading comprehension problems and I needed to help the poor guy out.
definitely not worth getting dragged into someone wanting to prove they were right with certain exceptions.
Do you mean me with that?

Before the rabbit turned this into a pointless discussion (due to said comprehension issues of his)
I just wanted to make the point - which I daresay ought be well worth mentioning - that (contrary to what is the case with an upgrade) you keep your original licenses, since instead of surrendering them in exchange for a V5 license you get a brand-new independent license for this latest version number of the bundle. That's what "crossgrade" means and why it might be important to not confuse both terms (upgrade and crossgrade).

Post

I have FX2, and since then only bought Coldfire seperately in a sale. FX5 is all filler no killer.

All show and no go.

Yeah, I get you- I'm a tinkerer too and like the idea of having lots of toys to explore. It's not the most productive thing to do but this is a hobby, being productive isn't the focus. My issue- speaking personally- is that I have wound up with surface level understanding of heaps of stuff. When it comes to things like vintage emulations, we're looking at a subtlty that may get missed when one only skims the surface. I kinda miss the days when I used Reason 5 only and had to intimately know all the available effects and synths.

That said, I purchased the entire FX collection for $69 last year and so even if I only use a limited number, it's still value for money.
