Any clubs you know of have an equivalent "open mic night" for us types - where you'd basically bring a CD of your own tunes, and get to play 1 or 2 songs (maybe not in a row) during the night?

Would be cool to go chill someplace and listen to others tunes and get to play one's own as well. I'm picturing a lounge/chill place that's got a dance floor as well.

Maybe this already exists. Admittedly, I live a pretty sheltered life, club-wise...

I know of a few open mic spots in the DC/Baltimore area, and a couple of regular DJ battle spots, but I am not aware of anything like yo're describing.

I doubt that exist's because it would be kinda boring because none of it would be live.

I like the idea. Nothing like that here in Atlanta, but I'd go if there was. I think lots of people would go because it is exposure for your music and a chance to meet people to collaborate with in your area.
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

where do you live and what kind of music do you produce?

So is live music and most venues would rather have live music than have some guy come in and play a CD, because live music would attract more people.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I'm just saying it's highly unlikely to happen.

Sure, clubs that cater to live music (oops, I almost typed "liver music") wouldn't be down for this type of thing. But, places that typically feature DJs aren't playing "live" music. Sure many mix in beats off of machines "live", but I wouldn't label it live music.

I may go to a DnB club and hear a night of non-live, all DnB stuff. That's fine with me.

Just thought it would be a similar type of thing, but you'd get to hear a wide variety of music, as opposed to "hard-house" night or "dnb night".

I wouldn't expect, although wouldn't discourage, a "real" band that plays live regularly to walk in with a CD and play that.

And, thinking about it a bit further, the vibe would be similar to just chilling some place, listening to the radio, etc. Lounge, chill, have a few cold ones, etc.

Personally, I'd be more likely to go to something like that frequently, compared to a DnB only club, where after an hour my ears are fatigued.

Of course, in my past experience, open mic nights can typically attract more of a musicians type of croud. So be it. Regardless, still think it works for me.
