I've just been messing around in ableton. I'm not an ableton aficionado but I got into music production with ableton live 9 so i know it decently as it was my first daw. But I use shaperbox a lot for the volume shaping. If i have it in my device list after a few things like my softube clipper and another 10 or so ms device the compensation just shits the bed? Its visibly off in the oscilloscope of shaperbox and you can hear the duck move. its fine if i put it at the beginning of my chain. Do people calculate the delay of the plugins (i see when i hover over the device title bar of the device it shows the latency the plugin shows) and then type it into the track delay of the track options in the mixer? Is there a max for live device that you can put on the end of your chain that tallies them all so i dont have to count? or is there a better way? Do i need to worry about time based effects that dont induce latency like a digital reverb maybe using the latency as a predelay?

logic had this issue in the past and i would just put a latency compensation plugin that logic provides which is similar to the track delay options in ableton so im leaning towards thats what people do when they create some crazy chains?

also delay compensation is checked in the menu options and ive played around with different buffer sizes.

Ableton isn't the best at handling latency. Monitoring is laggy as heck so leave it off. Beyond that, I rarely have any issues but you can change the timing of a track in milliseconds if it does affect you.

Thank you!

AFAIK, Reaper and Bitwig are really good at PDC.
